Default Using S/MIME to encrypt emails

Please Login to Remove!

I just upgraded my Bell Mobility BB Curve 8330 to the most recent OS version (4.5.0.77). I installed the S/MIME support, and I have a valid email certificate I copied from my Windows Vista laptop (issued by Verisign).

How can I send encrypted emails using S/MIME? Or do I need a 3rd-party app?

My BB is not on a BES -- it just uses my cell carrier's network (but it connects to my @rogers.com email account I got with my cable internet from Rogers.... I want to use this email account, not my @bell.blackberry.net account).

Thanks!

Edit: in my S/MIME options, it shows my email certificate. All Content Ciphers are allowed (AES 256/192/128, CAST, RC2 Triple DES).

I have experience with S/MIME in a BES environment. Don't know if you can do it without BES. You will need a CAL for S/MIME and you will have to install Certificate Sync in Desktop Manager to sync certificates.

Don't think it can be done with BIS.

Below are the requirements for one one of the S/MIME packages. You need a BES server for this to work?

The S/MIME Support Package requires the wireless network system architecture to support the following server connections:
xxx8226; a physical connection (using a serial or USB port) from the BlackBerry device to the computer to enable the Certificate Synchronization Manager to download the private key of the user on the BlackBerry device
xxx8226; a wireless connection established by the BlackBerry Mobile Data Systemxxx8482; (BlackBerry MDSxxx8482;) Connection Service (connection service), which resides on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, designed to enable the BlackBerry device to connect to the PKI server.

You do need a BES server for this to work. Didn't mean to put the "?" at the end of the sentence.
