Default controls lag when playing video

Please Login to Remove!

I just bought the pearl today. I've encoded a bunch of video files and everything plays back fine. What I've noticed though is that the controls (pause, stop, volume, etc...) don't respond right away. There's a considerable lag. I'm using a Rogers version so I'm waiting for the Rogers update to 6.x has anyone else experienced this?

I had that similar problem but then read up on some of the threads about encoding and now the videos I encode (using mencoder) have a quick seek time. The only delay/lag I get now is when I initially load up the video there is a pause (10 seconds or so for a full movie). Not sure if tweaking more settings might fix this..

Anyone able to get instant load-up AND no lag when using controls..?

Read my thread on using BlackBerry Video Generator, a $15 program that converts video to the Pearl format. It uses mencoder, which is free, but for that $15 you don't have to think about it, it's two clicks and any video is converted, including FLV [flash] files that are the YouTube and Google format.

The lag is caused by the video being in a format that will play, but because it is not in 8100 format, the lag occurs. For example, I used Super C to convert video into 3GP format and those would play on the Pearl, but there was lag in the controls.

Once I used BBVG, the lag was completely gone.

Note: At the time I think I called the program BBVC or BlackBerry Video Converter, but I think it has always been "Generator."

i like this program but since everything is automatic, has anyone else noticed improper aspect ratios on some widescreen movies/ music videos / tv shows?

Are you referring to BBVG? If so, we are at the mercy of the aspect ratio if the video that is being converted. For example, on my DVD's that are wide screen, the conversion will be in widescreen mode, but rather small on the Pearl.

I suspect that what will come next from that program is the ability to adjust aspect ratio. What I do for now is use Super C to convert the videos into avi files. Super C lets me change or adjust aspect ratio. I then use BBVG to convert the avi into Pearl format.
