Default Storm 2 Wifi Static IP Address Issues

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

My first ever post and Blackberry phone, coming over from the dark side (Windows Mobile) after experiencing such a poor O/S base.

I've just picked up a new contract and carrier, here in the UK; Vodafone with the Storm 2.

I'm having issues setting up Wifi on my Blackberry at home. Here's the scenario. Sorry if this goes way too technical, I am an IT techie.

Computer acting as software firewall and default gateway, sharing the internet connection (no DHCP assignment) - 192.168.0.1
Wireless Router acting as a switch connecting home PC's and laptops through wired and wireless connections (no DHCP assignment) - 192.168.1.1
PC's are statically assigned IP addresses - e.g 192.168.0.50

The Blackberry finds the wireless router and connects to it but is saying that no IP address is assigned. No problem, I create the profile and edit it, deselecting the "Automatically assign IP..." and enter my own values:

IP - 192.168.0.51
Sub - 255.255.255.0
Def Gateway - 192.168.0.1
Primary DNS - 192.168.0.1

I save and exit twice, I have even pulled the battery out and restarted.

I can see it tries to connect but under the Wifi Diagnostics it states the Status: IP address no longer valid. Yet when I try the exact same thing on a wireless laptop it works fine.

A few things to note:

I have no SIM card currently present
I have turned off the "Mobile Network" and left "Wi-Fi" on
Wifi black and white logo stays grey
The router is set to WPA2 and I beleive the Security Type is Pre-Shared Key (PSK)
SSID is broadcasted
When I try to use the browser it states Unable to connect...
When I enabled DHCP on the router the Blackberry was assigned a 192.168.1.6 IP but failed to get out to the internet despite changing default gateway and Primary DNS to match above values.

I hope someone is up for a challenege as I have spent the whole of today on this one. No idea why it fails. I hope I'm just thick and missing something simple?!

Oh to add insult to injury, my housemates iPhone connects like a dream using the same settings (hate Apple).

Many thanks to anyone who reads this essay!

Could you give a little more info on how the network is wired? What is the reasoning behind running a router and Internet Connection Sharing?

It sounds to me like you have two subnets running in the same broadcast domain?

Well it looks like you put the ip address of the router and not of the domain server of your ip provider

Have you tried disabling APN parameters under options > advanced > TCP/IP settings? This is used by the phone to solve IP through WAP (which is not what you want to do...) Did you select "Internet Browser" under options > advanced > browser settings?

I had the same problem you describe but I never had to go to static IP (my router has dhcp activated). I don't have a SIM card in the phone either. My Wi-Fi icon is still grey but it still works...

Hope this helps!
