Thanks for doing the comparision. I have a 8700C but am trying the Motorola Q for a 15 day trial. I like the Q but am unsure about the change to Verizon.

The lack of GSM in the Q means it's a no go for me.

I may keep mine too. I already have Verizon service on two lines with LG4500 that are about due to go off contract and therefore are elgible for the new every two progam. I want something a little easier to carry on the weekends and evenings. I also find the voice quality tobe far superior. In my initial review I thought the 8700 was awesome in voice but maybe I was blinded by comparing it to the 7290 that is really bad. After having it for over 6 months and listening to my wife complain everytime I call her on it I am convinced that I was wrong. So here is hoping it passes the stringent wife test. I will let everyone know though crow doesn't taste very good .

Great site. To me, the Q is a non-starter until useful Push email is available but that may come.

I congratulate you on an excellent review. It said a great deal and gave me comfort. I am on CIngular and have 4 family members also. It doesn't make me happy that Cingular didn't get the Q and I want one!! I am not hapy about returning to Verizon as for some reason it never worked in my house, yet the coverage was excellent in most places.

Do you know if and when Cingular will get the Q?? Thanks

Is it possible to 'unlock' the Q to work with another carrier?

Rumor has it around November time frame with full 3G HSDPA support. Since this is about the time that Cingular will be doing their nationwide 3G roll out it makes good sense to have a device that can actually benefit from the serivce and entice users to use it.

The radio on this unit has been awesome. What is especially intriguing is the fact that the antenna is internal on this CDMA device. Most CDMA devices use an external antenna (7250 is an exception too).

CDMA devices are not locked in the same way as GSM devices. In the past I have purchased Sprint phones and used them on Verizon. However, it doesn't work the other way around because Sprint would not allow non Sprint phones on their network. Without allowing your ESN to be registered you could not use it on Sprint.

I am right there with you...I HATED the software/OS at first, but after a couple of days with it I am extremely happy with it.

No push email, but that is not an issue with me...I wanted the camera (new son) and the ability to quickly send snapshots out to the grandparents. The phone-first, PDA-lite second fits my needs right now.

I almost dropped T-Mobile to get a Q, and although it is thiner, it's alot longer and I'm not sure I really like that.

It annoys me how people are out there so desperately trying to replace the status of the blackberry, so they get all these fancy devices like the Treo and when asked how is the email, most say "Well if you want it more for the emails, then the Blackberry wins"

Just waiting for Verizon to not have the lock on the phone to pick it up. I use Cingular, have been watching the 8700c for a long time (and the Razrberry), and finally broke down and bought the 8700...for now.

Once the Razrberry hits Cingular, I'm dumping my Razr and my 8700c for it (the 8700c lacking a camera really bugs me, but I don't want a Treo).
