Here are some interesting sound tracks from the 8700 & the Q using the Nokia BH 800 and the Plantronics V510. All of these were recorded in my home office (lots of WiFi around) with me talking in a quiet voice so I wouldn't wake up my better half.

A couple of cool things about the BH-800 before I proceed. Pairing is really kind of cool. You turn the device on and this little green LED flashes, you use your phone to search for the device, it finds it and you enter the pass code of 0000 and it pairs and connects and the flashing LED goes to a blue flash. Later when you want to reconect it after having it off, you have your phone's Bluetooth on, turn on the headset, it will flash green for a few flashes and then switches to blue flashing when it connects a few flashes later. On the 8700 you can control the headset volume from the scroll wheel but not on the Q. You guys & gals tell me which ones sound better.

After using it half the day I must say I think it's safe to say the BH-800 will be replacing my JX-10.

The fit is MUCH better. It's louder, since it goes more into the ear. No pairing mode! Just turn it on and pair.

My only complaint it that the power button is small and hard to press.

I think I'll have to find a silver one though. Not too sure I'm liking the brown.

Thanks for the tip John.

A couple of developments today. First, I converted to the 8707 firmware on my 8700, the jury is still out. Second, my in car test of the Nokia BH 800 on the 8700 did not go well. I don't know if it is the phone, the firmware or that the two aren't as compatible as I had hoped. Third, Jabra contacted me, after one of the forum members inidcated that some JX-10s with the right manufacturing date apparently worked much better than others with the wrong date code, and asked me to retest a unit that they will send me. I want to be fair to all manufacturers so I offered to hold back my review until I retest the unit they will send me.

Before I post more sound clips I want to see what others are experiencing with the BH 800.

What are the dates of the possible bad JX10s and how do you check for the date?

Here is the info a reader sent me: "what is the manufacture date of your JX 10. You can find that out by removing the rubber ring like cover on the side of the ear piece there will be a number like 13E which means manufactured in week 13.

"The only difference between the two were the ones I bought at best buy were manufactured in week 13 and the one I bought online was manufactured in week 7."

All of the 5 he bought that had week 13 were defective. The week 7 one was not.

All

One thing i have notice with both the JX-10 and the BH800 is that when I first power up the BT, the BB and the BT keep losing connecting and then reconnecting. This happen for about the first minute or two and then it find. Is it me? I have a 7130e Sprint phone.

By the way, love both but I am leaning towards the Nokia

i just got the nokia bh 800 today... charged up and using it.
gotta say that i'm not too impressed with it.
One thing i don't like about it is the fit of the earpiece that goes into my ear.
I have small holes and the ear piece is just too big.
It also has a nasty habit of disconnecting from my bb and then connecting again. I actually prefer my old jabra 250v over this thing. the jabra was soo damn comfortable. I can't see my self wearing this thing all day as it would start to hurt my ear. Static can get pretty bad too.
just my 2 cents. i'm going to try the jabra counterpart of this bt headset.
maybe i'll have better luck. sucks because i was really diggin the design and form factor of the nokia.
is that part that goes in your ear the same size with the nokia as the jabra x10? can anyone who has tried both
chime in on this one?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

The earpiece on the JX10 is larger in comparison to the BH800. The JX10 doesn't really go into the ear like the Nokia does. It's for this reason I prefer the Nokia. In the ear means louder noise to me.

Default Smaller than a AA size Battery

Pictures for those who doesn't have a clue as to how small it really is!

Color: Silver White and Coffee Black

And the only way to show how small it really is, I compared it with "AA" size Battery.

Before anyone goes and spends their hard earned $$ on the Nokia BH-800 I thought I would share some preliminary information.

When I first got the unit is seemed to be very good, even in the car; however, when I started recording clips in noisy environments I grew very dissapointed in the unit. It wasn't even close in sound quality to the Plantronics 510. It was slightly better on the Moto Q than on the 8700 where it was horrible.

Here are a couple of quick sound clips for you to see for yourself:

8700 with BH800 in Car

Moto Q with BH800 in Car

I didn't find either acceptable.

Compare to Plantronics 510

MotoQ with D510 in Car

I hope this helps.
