Default Erase Data and Disable handheld BES 4.1

Please Login to Remove!

I am working on setting up a process for users leaving the company. I would like to wipe their device from the server. I have the option to erase data and disable handheld from the server. In the past I have only used this when a device has been lost or stolen. My question is does it "disable" the device so that it can no longer be used on our BES or can I still redeploy that device to another employee after it has been disabled???

The device ought to be able to join a BES again. You might need to wipe it first though.

I wouldn't use that button unless it is lost or stolen. If you can get the handheld back, wipe if from there.

I want to be able to wipe it from the server. There are over 7,000 devices spread across many states. I do not want to have to rely on local managers to wipe the device for security reasons. Has anyone tested this?

It will work but I've seen a handfull of cases where the handheld isn't in coverage or something happens and you wind up needing to app load the handheld.

If the leaving employee hands the device in and it gets reassigned, the wipe should happen when it is EA'd. If the employee take it with them then yes do the wipe from the BES.

The "erase data & disable handheld" option is essentially a security option. You will have to manually wipe the device; or remove the user from the BES.

I spoke to tsupport and they confirmed it is the same as a wipe from the handheld. I will do some tests today and post what I find.

Let us know if you wind up with any forever hourglasses or 507 errors. Also do not remove the user from the BES untill you are sure the handheld has been wiped, once removed the wipe command can't be sent.
