Default Blinking Red Light of Death

Please Login to Remove!

I was trying to update one of my units and in the middle of updating applications, (Connecting for the first time), it decided to shut off. Now it doesn't matter if I switch the battery or SIM card, the thing still doesn't power on. All that happens is that once the battery is placed back inside the device it starts blinking red. It blinks twice, pause, two blinks, pause, etc. Any solutions. I can't power it up to reload the OS or anything. Thanks

Try this this.

1. Unplug BB from PC.
2. Launch the Application Loader like you were going to install something.
3. While the app loader is attempting to connect to the BB, plug the USB cable into the BB.

Thank you so much for your help. I went to a cell repair place and they told me that my phone was fried and that nothing could be done for it. I knew they didn't know what they were talking about.
Thanks so much...

Default More complete info for this thread

All please note - the reason you're not getting connected is probably:

1. You need to have the software loaded on the Blackberry Desktop for the device you are trying to recover with the red light. Go to your carrier and download the device specific build before doing this. If you try to connect without the current software for the device loaded, it will connect but do nothing.

2. When the device gets plugged in, and it starts connecting / dropping / reconnecting on the USB connection, catch it when the screen switches to USB PIN UNKNOWN, highlight and press OK. Then assuming you have the newer app loader, select update software. It will go through the checks then and reload whatever isn't right.

3. Remember, your data is dead at this point. You can't do a backup / reload, because there is no OS to backup with. You can reload the OS, but then its like a wiped device.

- Did this on an 8100 Pearl just a few hours ago. Tried to save the data, but couldn't find a way. But the device was unbricked...

I did what you said, it eventually started to show the charging symbol on the screen, but then went blank and blinked red again. When I held the power on button, it's starting to power on, but I don't know if it is going to actually do it or not. :( It's still blinking red but has the power on

It says the battery is drained and now when I connect the charger it has the yellow light... but the battery was full before this so I'm confused.

Thumbs up the unhelpfull

Blackberrys do die! When they do they go down hard. I had a 8700g that I bought off eBay used. I used it for the last three years. Its death was caused by my arrogance. I would show off to friends and strangers alike that my phone could it. I would drop it on the floor, ground, whatever. This phone took it all. I ran over it in my front yard with my full size Dodge truck, it was in water 3 times NO PROBLEMS. Its demise was my showing off I dropped it one too many times on concert. A small piece that connects the LCD and the mother finally say I have enough! I put the LCD in another 8700g I had as spare parts and I am rocking and rolling again.

If you need help ALWAYS come here! These guys can help better than anybody because we all use these great devices daily in many different ways if one person does not have an answer someone else will. From the software to the hardware someone here can help.

I would recommend that the next BlackBerry you purchase has spelling and grammar check...

I had to read your message twice, and still have no clue what it has to do with the original post.

I don't really understand how dropping sensitive electronics against concrete and water yet running them over with Dodge trucks demonstrates *any* of the device's useful feature set.

I always tell my friends that my BB can take it. "Sensitive electronics" yes but better built than most other phones. In "most" cases a hard restart or wiping the device and reinstalling the OS can repair the phone.

As far as the treatment of my phone it was a way of trying to get more people to see what a great phone it is and to buy one. The water and truck where not demonstrations but where accidents. The dropping was showing off, I don't do it anymore. I don't see too many razors or other phones for that matter that can take the ruff and tumble world the blackberry can. As to the topic I was just letting him know that he should come here for good advice to fix problems not a service center with a bench charge.

It says the battery is drained and now when I connect the charger it has the yellow light... but the battery was full before this so I'm confused.

Pull the battery count to 10.
Put the battery back in.
Plug the phone up to a USB cable from you computer.
Make sure the device manager is running.
Wait for the computer to power up your phone it may take a little time.

I had a battery that was fully drained and this worked for me.

Also you can check you status by going to options-status
It will give you the battery strength
