Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

Get a new sim card. That should fix the issue. Go to your local carrier's store to snag it

Might also try a battery pull to see if that helps. But most likely it is a SIM card problem as dankarlinski mentioned above.

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

Battery pull is more convenient.

Especially if it solves the problem.

Seriously? I understand you're trying to get to 10 posts quickly, but geez man, try to give somewhat helpful advice. That's a good amount of money to drop just to get texting to work if the user was on another carrier.

Early termination fee = ~$200. New device ~$200. So ~$400 to get texting to work. Good advice

i tried powering down, battery pull, and gprs to gms, nothing is working.
i think it is a hardware problem because my SIM works fine is my sony ericsson, but its a crappy phone. maybe i need a new phone. i previously had a pearl and hated it.

The network status indicator on the Home screen of the BlackBerry device displays SOS. The SOS network status indicator means that you can only place emergency calls. Messages cannot be sent or received, and phone calls cannot be made or received.

Cause
This issue may be caused by one of the following:

The Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card is not properly inserted into the BlackBerry device.
The SIM card is scratched or damaged.
The SIM card contacts are oxidized.
Your service has been disconnected by the service provider.
The network does not support roaming.
The network selection mode is set to manual and no network is selected.
The BlackBerry device requires the latest software from the service provider.
