So is it "Universal Media Access" (as referenced in the above crackberry write up) or "Unlicensed Mobile Access"? I don't really care as it works great. But I'm curious.
some more basic info...
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Generic Access Network (GAN), also known as Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA), is a telecommunication system allowing seamless roaming and handover between local area networks and wide area networks using a dual-mode mobile phone. It lets mobile operators deliver voice, data and IP Multimedia Subsystem/Session Initiation Protocol (IMS/SIP) type applications to mobile phones. Its ultimate goal is the convergence of mobile, fixed and Internet telephony (Fixed Mobile Convergence).
Calls made via UMA are charged as if you're making them from your home calling area. If you have the H@H add-on, all calls made via UMA are airtime (not long-distance) free. So if you call France when connected via UMA, you pay the international charges, but you don't use your plan allocated minutes
cheers dawg I am in the UK and on orange. I guess what I might do is make an UMA call and call orange and see if the call registered with them. But what you are saying is basically our service providers know about these calls? Damn!
