Default Charging Problem after OS 5 upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

I did the Verizon OS 5 upgrade today through the desktop manager, only had 2 issues.

1) Application Splashdata wasnt restored, did it manually through App Loader.

2) Storm would not recognize the external power connection. Both the USB connector to the PC or the USB connector to the A/C adapter would be recognized! A battery pull resolved it.

Only issue so far is that software resets (with Meterberry or Quickpull) no longer work.

Upgrade took about 35 minutes.

On your QuickPull do you have BES e-mail? Make sure Quickpull is set to allow all or it won't work. Also make sure you allow all on your e-mail. I have not found a work around for Quickpull with BES yet. But the software is such a great update I am not going to give up on 5.0 just because of QuickPull.

1) No, I am on BIS.
2) There are no options in the Quickpull app for allowing email that I can see.

go to Options-Applications-on the top drop down menu select Core-Email setup application just touch to hi-light click the blackberry button edit Default permissions. Make sure they all say Allow. If you can't change the middle (Interactions) from Custom to Allow than QuickPull won't work. This is because of BES. I have other test phones with no BES and QuickPull works fine. We will have to wait for Quickpull to come out with a fix. I hope this helps.

I called VZW before doing the upgrade and was told that there were some issues and they are (if asked) advising people NOT to do the OS 5 upgrade. they say that BBry is working on the issue and it's mostly BES issues, though some have lost Icons and contacts (not sync'd) as well.

On BES and everything works as expected. I'm finding advice from Verizon reps not to install the new OS very hard to believe. No lost icons, no contact sync problems, no batt drain, memory leak... Sounds like FUD

I am on BES as well and neither quickpull or the reset feature of quicklaunch will work. I was able to get the quicklaunch reset to work with a work around. When I attempt to change the interactions setting from custom to allow for any app or program, it is greyed out. I believe it is based on the fact that our BES admin has a password policy in place which controls the security timer reset and I do not think that an upgrade to the software will help.

I hope I am wrong but from what I have read elsewhere, I believe this to be the case. On a positive note, the new OS has been much more stable when it comes to memory management. If I only have to hard boot every couple of weeks, I can live with pulling the battery.

Here you go this is the fix for Quick pull It took a few battery pulls and doing what they tell you to do but it now works great.

How to use QuickPull on OS 5.0 - Steelthorn Software - FAQ

Problem is this...

Actual instructions copied from web page...

1. Go to Options > Applications
2. Press Menu > "Edit *Default* Permissions". Note the "Default".
3. Set all three categories to "Allow"
4. Menu > Save
5. Do a real battery pull.

I can never complete step three. The interactions setting is custom and I cannot change it to allow. This is because under the interactions, the security timer reset is set to deny and it is greyed out. I am unable to change it. From what I have read in other posts and forums, this is a setting on the BES that is related to the password policy that my IT has in place. Now, I know for sure that my IT is not going to remove the policy so therefore I am stuck. I suspect anyone else on a BES with a password policy will be as well. And to be quite honest, if I have to choose between security and being able to use quickpull, I choose security.

I appreciate your efforts.

My would not let me change it also but after a few battery pulls it just started to work. The first time the software became stuck asking me to allow permission it just would not stop. So I pulled the battery and it seems ok and I did one more battery pull now it works. good luck.

i'm just doing some charity grouping since i'm in the market for a storm 2 so i'm trying to group all the threads regarding 5.0 and battery charging issues. seems one practical solution is just not upgrading the OS right away....

I think the OS 5.0.0.328 is the best yet. I think some of the trouble people have is because of the apps they have.
