A suggestion if I may. You really do not have to update the OS unless you have a problem with the device. I am probably in the minority on this issue, but I stand by it.
IMHO, as a new user, you really should play with the device and get to know it and see how it works. And then make it work for you. If you find something that will not work as you need it to, then maybe an OS is an option --- MAYBE.
After using it for a while, you may really find that it isn't broken at all, that it doesn't need an OS update, that there is no need to fix it.
However, if you must, there is a sticky at the top of each BB Device Forum with the latest OS and instructions on how to install it. Follow the instructions exactly and have patience. It takes a while to get through the upgrade. Make sure you have a good back up before you begin. The risk, although not great, is turning your new, prized possession into a brick.
