Default BB OS Upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

I am currently running the OS that came with my Sprint BB8830 World when I got it, v4.2.2.176, and I would like to update to the latest version v4.5.0.201. Thats a reather significant jump.

I remember reading on this forum before the following changes:
  1. The issue where the phone stops being connected from 1XEV for no reason is fixed.
  2. YouTube and other Java applications on the web work.

Are these true? What other changes can I look forward to, or should I be worried about?

Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

I don't which build you are referring to.
I ran 4.5.0.77 on my 8830 as a beta and no significant problems. Its time to take the plunge.

For future readers, I have updated to 4.5 and found that YouTube works, the 1XEV issue went away, MSS messages are now available, and it's running great if not a little slower than before.

Did you go straight to .201 or did you do an upgrade(s) first?

Just updated OS from 4.2 to 4.5 on my 8830 and I'm very pleased with the results. Was not seeking to specific applications (i.e. YouTube). I was looking specifically for the ability to use a Bluetooth headset to provide voice input into a voice memo application that lets me send the voice files attached to an e-mail (Voice Recorder +). That works well now. In addition, for me almost everything is running faster. Had absolutely no problem with installation. Highly recommend it.

I'm using the BB Today Plus theme. I recall on other models that upgrading to 4.5 caused this theme not to behave properly. Is that also fixed, or is there a 4.5 version of the theme out there? It's really the only thing holding me back from upgrading.

You can always try using a free Today+ theme. I was a running a Today+ theme without a problem.

What FREE Today+ were you running. The original one I used on 4.2 did not work on one of the BETA 4.5's (it would not retain positions/folders on reboot). Does it work properly on the NON-beta?

That's exactly my question. I use the RIM Today+ theme. I'd prefer to keep it, if at all possible. Like I mentioned, it is the one and only thing stopping me at this moment.

Hmm.. I was running 4.5.0.77 (and the release before that one) on my 8830.. (Some of the original/buggy early betas.)

It was a while back. (Got to a Curve last August, so I ended up giving my 8830 to my father since then)

I go theme crazy sometimes so I don't even remember what it was.. but I take a quick look threw my files see if I still have it downloaded on my comp somewhere.
