1yr price $299.99
Retail price $469.99
Those were the prices I was just quoted from my Verizon rep too.

I usually get a large text messaging plan anyway, so if I go with T-Mobile I would just get unlimited. As far as "turning it on when I use it", I like to be signed onto AIM so others can contact me, not just the other way around. It is nice to be able to stay signed on but not run down your battery. The SMS based messengers allow for that. Obviously the disadvantage is that they do not auto-update the buddy list. But when you are signed on and your phone is in your pocket, who cares if the buddy list is updated.

Anyway, it looks like RIM is going to be releasing their own AIM program as was posted today. So if I go with the 8703e, I guess I will wait until that is available.

To all those annoyed with the wait and hate Verizon for it,

It's not Verizon's fault that they are 1 year behind in releasing phones that GSM carriers receive first. Unfortunately, there is a much larger market for GSM phones (see Europe) so it behooves companies to create new/revolutionary phones for CDMA carriers rather than convert other existing popular GSM phones. Verizon would come out with newer phones faster if the actual companies that create the phones (RIM, LG, Samsung, Motorola, etc) would put their resources into CDMA phones - unfortunately, this is not monetarily efficient, and thus will never happen.

Anyway, who else is excited? Does anyone know if the whole Red-Bar VZW User Interface can be changed to the one shown on the RIM website?

lets not rehash the GSM and CDMA argument, sift through this thread and you will see what the argument states, GSM is old and weak and certainly not superior to CDMA, distribution wise maybe but not performance wise...

Just for fun very early this morning I went on VZW's web site to see if by chance the 8703 was on their. And it was. So, I logged in to "upgrade" and the 8703 was gone. Damn it!! So, I logged out of my account and went back to the phone section to see if it was there. Again, the 8703 was pulled from the site. So close yet so far away. We need to keep checking, they will turn it on this weekend for sure.

Just for grins I'm going to my local VZW storee to see if they have them yet.
