haven't heard of that being possible. I suppose it could be in the future, though.

I've been really curious about doing this with the pearl too, and I just came across another program that is similar to that mobilia thing you mentioned:

SourceForge.net: SmartCam

It says its for symbian OS on the first page, but download it anyway, because it also includes a Java version you can upload to the phone. I got it on the phone, and I ran the client app on my PC, and I can tell the app on the phone to connect to my PC over bluetooth, but the connection stalls and then fails. It almost works because the app on the PC says its "Connected", but that's as far as I can get.

Anyone else want to give it a try? I'm wondering if it's because I'm using Vista or have the wrong bluetooth stack, or just something related to my setup.

I tried it out. It is kind of lame how they are making the BB a webcam. They are just polling a screen shot every .5 seconds so your web cam also shows your viewfinder.

I tried it on an 8320 and an 8100. I wouldn't waste your time.

Default Anyone get SMARTCAM to work on their BlackBerry?

Hello all;

I too am looking for an application that will allow me to use my Bold as a webcam. Considering as the technology is still relatively new, I am not so concerned about speed (besides, we on T-Mobile do not all have 3g yet). But likewise, considering such, I do not want to waste money on beta quality stuff either.

As such I would like to try to use SmartCam, but I could not find any detailed instructions on how to download & install the various components on my laptop & blackberry. Though I can find my way around computer stuff, I am still pretty new to RIM, so any assistance getting SMARTCAM installed (especially the wifi version) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

mobiola web cam. I installed this crap and it trashed my phone. 503 app error every time it starts up. Now I have to spend my time to fix this. Do not bother with it.

Update: after 5 hard resets it finally deiced to let my phone start up.

I'll go you one better - I installed this. Turned away to the laptop for a moment - look back at the 8330 and it is WIPING itself. Just as if I had initiated it myself. Never seen such a thing.

As cheap as webcams are now, I wouldn't want to put my 8100 through the risk. They have some really good ones at Walmart for just over $13....

borkus - it's not that you'd ever use it - it's just knowing that you could if you needed to
