Default Trouble Shooting Unknown Error

Please Login to Remove!

We have a Verizon 8330 that we keep getting an "Itellisync unknown error" when we try to sync it up. The only way we can get the software installed is if we install it under the administrator, under the user settings, the user has administrator rights but still won't allow the software to be installed.

Is it becase we have it installed under administrator that it doesn't work?

Is there anyway to make it work?

Windows XP is the computer.

Thanks

I take it you are referring to when you install Desktop Manager?

You have to be in a user account with administrator privileges to install it. When you install Desktop Manager, you have the option of installing it so all users of the computer can run it, or installing it to just one user account, which would be the same account you are in when it's installed.

Example.. if you have 2 user accounts -- Bob -- his account had admininstrator privileges, and Mary, whose account does not have administrator privileges (limited user account). Bob can install programs, but Mary can't.

If Bob installs Desktop Manager so all users can run it, then both he and Mary can run the program when she is on her account. If Bob installs it so only one user can run it, then only Bob can run the program when logged in on his account.

The admininstrator account is separate and there's no need to use it if you have your own useraccount with adminintrator privileges.

I don't exactly understand what you mean here:

It sounds like you did install the software, yes?

Yes, we were able to install the software. When we tried to install it under the user account, which has administrator rights, it stops the install and says we dont have rights to do the install. We tried restarting it, and have verified several times that the user has administrative rights but it still wont allow the install.

Since the user install didnt work we signed on as the adminstrator and loaded it there with it being allowed to be used by all users hoping it would work.

When it first goes to sync it says it is looking for the root registry or something like that and gets about 75% and gives us the "Itellisync Unknown Error". Out of curiousity we tried to sync it up on the Administrator account, which there is nothing to sync but it was able to do the root registry without getting the error report.

Thanks for your help.

It is a work computer, part of a domain, we are using an exchange server for email and we are using the redirector.

The redirector works, just the sync isnt working.

Thanks

[QUOTE=daphne;1137199]Maybe this is helpful..

Thanks for your help, we had found that yesterday and went through each step and it still doesn't work. I am thinking it has to do with installing it under the administrator and not the user account, we will have to figure out why it isnt allowing that.

If anyone has any other ideas let me know.

Thanks again

I would try uninstalling it. Then reboot, and log in with the user account that has administrator privileges. If the account truly has admin privileges, it should install fine. During the install, use the option of installing it for all users of the computer.

You might check with your IT dept. on if there are group policies / restrictions on user accounts that are causing problems with installing apps.
