Insert SIM card error
Please Login to Remove!
Okay - I got myself a new Bold and unlocked it. Went to AT&T to get a SIM card, but on the home screen I get a "insert SIM card" message, with SOS calls only. The guy at the store put my new SIM in his Iphone and it worked, so it is not the SIM card. On the SIM card I can see the grooves from the connectors, so they must make contact. What the hell is wrong? I googled the issue but all I can find is hat the contacts must be dirty and things like that. What can be the issue? Any help is appreciated, because now I am the "proud" owner of a $650 Ipod basically.

A locked device ususally says "invalid sim card," though.

yes 100%. There is really only one way to insert it with the contacts down. The guy at the AT&T store tried to insert it as well. I cleaned the contacts on the phone as well as on the SIM card. Is there maybe a setting that needs to be set correctly? The radio is obviously set to "on". Please help - anyone!? And it is unlocked....

Ooh No! I feel for you man... this ordeal of yours is giving me second thoughts about getting a BB Bold, especially if it's not from my carrier. My carrier's damn slow and we really don't know when the launch will be.
Have some good offers from Hong Kong and Singapore. Might just, but am skeptical in terms of the unlocking, how safe & fool-proof is it? Just don't wanna have a bricked berry...
All the best and hope you find a solution quick!

unlocking will NOT brick your phone... never has and never will... unlocking a blackberry is 100% safe!
as for the OP issue... call the carrier... easy as that... say you have a curve lol and that you are having this issue and they will help trouble shoot

I hate to add to the "are you sure the SIM card is in the right way?", but...
I don't have a Bold but on other models, there is a silhouette of which way to insert the SIM near the slot, showing notch orientation. I had mine in upside down and got the same message you do.
If it is in the right way but not making contact, you can confirm that by possibly (with the back cover off) wiggling the SIM around a bit while watching the display for data arrow activity and/or disappearance of the error message. If that works, you might (if you don't want to take the unit back for exchange) wedge something in there to hold contact.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried that as well. Seems the nit I have just won'r recognize any SIM. Must be a defective unit. Hopefully they will exchange it for me.

what do you mean by turning on the SIM card? I bought the unit at a Rogers store without a SIM card, unlocked it then when to AT&T and bought a SIM card w/ minutes and data plan, etc. That is all you have to do, am I correct?

You would have to take the battery off to do this though, will it run without the battery on? (Just on A/C Power)?
