Default Google Maps problem

Please Login to Remove!

I have always used Google maps as my only Map and navigation software and I hardly ever get GPS through it. The only time the software would recognize where I was would be while driving on a highway. Other than that It always says I'm somewhere within a range of X Meters.

Recently the discussion came up with a friend who says she always gets accurate GPS from her non-BlackBerry Verizon touchscreen device .. so now I am wondering why...

My GPS settings are:

Device GPS
Location On
Location Aiding Enabled

To get good GPS signals, you need to be outside, with a clear view of the sky. It can take 20 minutes to lock on if it has been a while since you last locked on. Generally it is faster and and much faster after the initial lock.

Initially, Google Maps uses cell tower data and triangulation to locate you. you shoudl get a position within 1700-2500 meters. Once GPS locks on, it should be 10 meters or less.

If your Lati/Longi tudes are NOT populated try this outdoors on a clear sky go to:
Options -> Advanced Options -> GPS -> Menu -> Refresh GPS.
It starts scanning for satellites and populates the Longitude, Latitude, Time, etc. This means have set up your GPS right and you wont have to use cell tower triangulation approximations.
N.B. I hope this works coz these are from an 83xx BB and NOT your BB type 95xx.

i tried thst on my 9630, there is no "refresh gps" option under menu/gps...
Wonder if it is somewhere else? Will poke around a bit....
My Google maps WILL not lock to GPS. You dont realize how much you like a program till its gone.

If anyone has any suggestions/I'm all ears

I'm sorry if the following doesn't exist on your 96xx, on my 8300 I go:
a) Options
b) Advanced Options
c) GPS
d) Menu (ie pressing on the blackberry button )
e) Refresh GPS (ie I select this menu)
