Cool bbLocal: Free Google Local Clone or Blackberry!!!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

We have released a new Google Local clone for the Blackberry platform. I'm pretty sure you know when Google launched Google Local Mobile they didn't offer it for the Blackberry so we did something about it. bbLocal contains all the same features as Google Local but we have added to it with our own Business Directory, where you will be able to see business and services placed right on the map. Highlight a business and you can click on more info for additional contact and background information.

The OTA download site is: http://mobile.bblocal.com

or

Desktop Manager install: http://www.bblocal.com/downloads/bbLocalAll.zip

Screenshots and more information can be found on our website at http://www.bblocal.com

One downside is that we had to limit bbLocal to certain cities to make bbLocal run faster. We currently have 16 cities in US and Canada but plan on adding more in the future.

Please let us know if you have any feedback ...

We should have a lot added by the new year. Our goal is to have all cities with a professional sports team listed. You can download the program now because it will automatically check for new cities when they are added.

It's not on the list yet, but we will be adding it in the future. Hopefully by the new year.

This is the third BlackBerry compatible Google Local clone I know of --

One of them is HelloWorld at www.freek.ca which suports North America wide -- and scrolling horizontally and vertically (using the thumbwheel much like dragging a map around on a PC). That one allows you to enter a city and it goes there and then zooms into it; no need for a list, it uses the Google Local search engine to find the cities; so by default it supports all the cities Google Local supports. So at the moment, I consider the www.freek.ca software superior to this one at the moment if you need North America wide flexibility -- but with all the competition going on, you never know, and yours is free and has different features that the others do not have. Ultimately it seems like this software would be offered for totally free because so many are starting to offer mobile Google Local.

Seems like Google Maps on a BlackBerry is going to be a popular thing on the 8700 with its EDGE speeds!

If there a performance advantage of this software over others for those that are in one of the cities listed (I am assuming that Toronto is on the list)?

Feedback from those that have experimented with this and others similar would be great!

Thanks in advance.

I just found out www.bblocal.com and www.freek.ca are both affilated.

Apparently, the creator of HelloWorld is one of the developers of bbLocal. Just wanted to inform you all that two of the Google Maps programs have the same developer.

That's something that pops up every once and awhile on Nextel/Telus devices. Can you tell me if it happens all the time, or just sometimes?

I only tried it for a few minutes and gave up. I'll try again later and report back. BTW, do you have plans to support GPS?

Still happening. I get the same thing with HelloWorld. I am on a 7100i (iDEN) with Nextel. Am I screwed?

Do a hard reset on your Blackberry and then retry. Let me know if that works or not.

Also we do plan on adding GPS but that's not until we have added the majority of the major cities in North America.
