Default OS Upgrade Question

Please Login to Remove!

I'm tempted to upgrade from OS 4.2 to OS 4.5. The question I have is will the BB need reactivating? Problem is it's a company BB and if I have to go through the IT department for reactivation if I may get a slap on the wrists.

Yes, it will very likely need a new activation after an OS upgrade.

Is reactivation something you can do yourself? Or in the case of a company BB will it require IT support services?

Depends on how your BES environment is set up.
Do you have Desktop Manager installed and configured properly for BES?

No matter how you do it... your IT Dept will know about it.

To be perfectly honest I only got it yesterday and don't know enough about BB's yet. I have DM installed but wouldn't know if it was configured properly for BES and even if it was I don't understand what difference it would make. Like you say if the IT Dept will know either way it's a risk I'm probably best not taking.

You should take some time and read up on the BBfaq articles and some of the posts about upgrading your OS, maximizing your memory and get more comfortable with the OS you have. Then, if you have a company notebook and vpn access, hook up to vpn, run dm and proceed with OS upgrade. If it fails, send a $50 gas card to the BES admin.

The BB belongs to the company. Screwing with their property without authorization could very well get you fired.

True. Send the gas card first.
