Thanks John. I guess I'll know for sure soon. Since there are no extra charges in their online page (aside from a couple test sms I sent out), I feel a little bit more confident.

I thought about getting that program since you all seem to talk highly about it but since I'm just getting into IM, I wanted to begin with something that was free. Through the Psi/Jabber set up, I've been able to use Google Talk with the other networks so for now I'd say I'm happy.

Thanks again.

Just to add my own two cents on the IM+ versus JiveTalk debate:

IM+ 5.1 supports Wi-Fi, while JiveTalk up to 1.03 does not.

For some of us this is a big deal, personally I like JiveTalk's interface and price better than IM+, but a lot of the time I'm working where EDGE reception is poor and of course my carrier is a well known data-charge bandit, so I'm inclined to spend my money on IM+ (although I'm waiting for a response re Wi-Fi from the JT team).

YMMV.

I think once JT supports WIFI connection, I might consider to get a 8820 (WIFI and GPS). I think the ATT 8820's wifi feature is pretty limited when I use it with TMO service.

Just heard back from JiveTalk support:

"We currently do not support wifi, but should be adding wifi support in our next version in the coming weeks."

Fingers crossed! ;)

I use Jive talk and love it.... but this new version of AIM for my Sprint 8830 is pretty good actually. I love the fact that it is tied into the messaging application.... like the emails and bb messenger are... makes it very easy to keep updated on the chats.... wish Jive Talk did that.
However I have it set to see the buddy icons and there is nothing there.... does this work for anyone else? Also, you just see a note icon next to a buddies name if they have an away message or something, but you can't click on it to see what it is in any way.... that's annoying too.

I cannot get MSN to work with Jive... it keeps telling me the password is invalid but I use my normal password and can log in everywhere else. Weird.

Are you possibly hitting ALT instead of CAP, or vice-versa? I've done that, but I've had no problem with MSN on JiveTalk.

Make sure you don't have any spaces and you don't capitalize the first letter.

I am a big fan of yahoo's new email tool where you can SMS to people's phones through their desktop email program. Is there an equivalent to this for the blackberry. Looked through yahoo messenger for BB and yahoo go 3.0 and didn't seem to be there. Obviously looking for a way to conserve my SMS messages, which I don't have the unlimited plan, in favor of using my unlimited data plan. Thanks

WebMessenger's Blackberry IM client which works on yahoo, aim, msn, and icq has recently become available free of charge... Due to the new pricing I think it is the best option out there!
