Default Is it safe to get a Storm?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm a long time BB user - my Bold has just died on me and so I'm getting a new phone tomorrow.

Obviously I've heard lots of horror stories about the Storm but I like to have the latest and greatest if possible and so don't fancy another year of a Bold.

My main uses are as a phone and email device - multimedia is far less important to me, so, can I safely go for the Storm or would I be safer sticking to the Bold?

i will admit took me a few weeks to get used to the storm i used to have the 9530 but sold it and got the 9500 because to many issues with EDGE connection with the verizon storm. i have the bold and love but over all once you get used to the storm you cant let it go. it will do the same job as a bold or even more. the cam on it is great and music play back is good. i was in the middle east last week and the 3g connection on the 9500 was great . i think the storm might be a nice upgrade for you .

Thanks Merk - that's good to hear. I might just brave it - I think Vodafone give a 7 day exchange period so I can always give it back

since your going with the vodafone storm as i did i think you will have a great experiance because the 9500 GSM/3g storm has more software upgrades and you wont run into any of the network issues . also make sure you get a nice size memory card the video cam and cam will make you take a pic of everything . the larger screen will really make you think more about what you can do with the phone and might even make you work on your phone more. after i got my storm i no longer use a computer for emails . because it has gotten to the point i can type almost as fast on it and viewing emails and documents is easy on it . enjoy it.

You are aware that a new Storm is coming very quickly on Verizon and possibly AT&T?

OK, got it this morning and first impressions aren't bad. It's a little lighter than I was expecting and the keyboard is OK.

It's charging up making it difficult to use for the time being but I will post more later if anyone is interested.

One annoying thing straight away - why did RIM change the power supply?

RIM didnt change the power supply most manufacturers are going over to micro usb.
Just make sure the phone has latest software on it as when I got mine I nearly sent it back cos the software was rubbish. There is also a good link on here for settings for a better storm, well worth using them as they make the storm work so much better

Enjoy and welcome to the Storm clan!!!

CONGRATS give it time . should take you a week or so to get used to the touch screen when coming from a bold or curve. i have the bold and the curve and i dont even use them anymore because i am so used to the touch screen i feel like i can type as fast on the storm as i do on a bold. def update the software. the good thing is that you wont run into many issues with the 9500 as 9530 users did , and there are more updates for the 9500 then the 9530. as for typing and performance read some of the forum setting for the storm that should fix some of the lag you might see. its funny i was playing with my iphone 3gs and i still cant type on it as good as i do on the storm i guess i am so used to tapping hard on the screen and feeling the screen go down . oh well keep us updated on how its going or if you need any help.

Actually I'm finding the screen to be pretty easy to use - played with the keyboard settings a little and typing became even better.

One thing I know that is going to really annoy me is the fact that locking the screen doesn't lock the buttons too. I'm on the latest vodafone software and reading through the forum there doesn't seem to be much I can do to fix it.

What is the exact latest OS, you have?

One of them (.122, .131?) had a bug where the keys would unlock the device, but that has been fixed since.

According to my About screen I'm on v4.7.0.141

I think this is the most recent Vodafone release.

looks like you have a later version - storm slider is working for me.

I'm keeping my Storm, I like it a lot. It's a bit heavy, typing is a little clunky, it's not as nice an experience as my iPhone but there's something about it that I do like.

metrodon, congrats on your storm

I got mine just few weeks ago, and i'm very happy with it.

Here's a handy tweak that might help with your typing on screen, even further.

I swear that it actually made it more easier to type now. Give it a try
