Default Maximum number of users for a BES?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Putting the theory aside from what RIM tells us a BES server can handle, but what is the maximum number of users you would put on a BES? Do you think we can put like 1500 users on one server?

You can safely run 2000 users on either BESX4.0 or BESN4.0
The specs for BESN4.0:
Intel P4 dual processor (2.8GHz or greater)
RAM 3GB - minimum
Gigabit NIC 100/1000 LAN
Two 36-GB RAID 1 drives (at least)

I have 1069 (peaked at 1200) on a Domino BES 2.2. Dual XEON 3.3Ghz processors with 2GB Ram.

Consistently see 70-75% proc utilization daily, but works well. It just takes 30-45 minutes to come back up after a crash is all... :(

Cool only 300

We only run a max of 300 per server. We have over 2000 users, but scattered throughout the US with remote Exchange boxes. If all the Exchange Boxes are next to the SQL database and BES Server you can max it out. But if you have remote boxes, then latency becomes a problem. If we push a server over 300 users, it can take up to an hour before a user will receive an e-mail on his blackberry when it came in on outlook earlier.

I've got 1000 each on Domino without even breathing hard, but it starts to become impractical at around 600. You can run into lengthy outages if you have to run repairs on the databases.
