Sorry to burst your bubbles, but I inquired about what device will be able to use Tmo's 3G when it comes out, whenever that is, and I was told that Nokia and another OEM (might be Moto) already signed on to make devices for Tmo's 3G network. RIM was def. not part of that group.

Good enough for me. Maybe they will be giving them out at WES, too.

Would be nice if RIM gave the CDMA side an exclusive instead of having them a year behind GSM. And don't start with this rest of the world crap. The US market is large enough to justify a CDMA first model at least once.

Call Qualcomm and see if they can help. CDMA carriers are ALWAYS behind GSM carriers. Sorry. Call Qualcomm. They hold all the CDMA patents.

I would venture to say that a majority of Government BB users are on the Verizon network. Sprint wanted to be, but was snubbed by the Feds.

Do you have a problem with a company wanting to make a profit on their R & D. CDMA is a vastly superior system. The reason Europe stays with GSM is
1. They are too cheap to pay Qualcomm to use their patent
2. Euro snobbery. European's seem to hate anything American and it must kill them that the better CDMA network is a US creation.
Pride and pocketbooks will keep them using the older and slower GSM.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. And GSM will remain the leader throughout the world for quite some time. Even Verizon has bitten the bullet and finally come out with some dual mode phones. CDMA plays in North America (along with iDen - and I am sure you can not make an argument for any superiority there) and a few other countries. But it is not global.

We require global coverage. For people who never leave North America I always suggest Verizon Wireless. But if you venture outside of the borders, GSM is the only way to go.

Again, if you want to complain about a lack of CDMA devices - which was the point of your first thread, complain to Qualcomm.

CDMA is a better protocol yes but it does not allow me to change devices easily (swap sim cards) like GSM models do, so I'm staying GSM for as long as its the way it is.

HSDPA is actually a variant of CDMA technology, built on top of GSM networks...the bottom line is that HSDPA uses CDMA technology.

In fact, HSDPA is an extension of and improvement upon UMTS, which is also known as Wideband CDMA.

So one way or another CDMA is involved in all 3G networks. That's the reason why Nokia is battling with Qualcomm concerning royalties on licensing Qualcomm technology. Nokia pretty much only makes GSM phones, but has to resort to CDMA technology when they add 3G to their phones.
