I have been using the BIS Gmail setup for a couple of weeks now, and even had my Gmail emails forwarded to my BlackBerry.net email account for a few days to speed reciept of messages...and everything worked great. But...I have noticed that I am picking up some random spam emails (like I was warned with this setup) on my Gmail account...so I cancelled the forwarding option. Problem is...I am still getting a spam email here and there.

Today, our of curiosity, I downloaded the official Gmail app from their homepage...and it works great too, actually displaying mail better than the BIS app...and no spam at all, showing me that the Gmail spam filter is working just like it would on my PC at home.

Has anyone encountered the same spam problem with forwarding Gmail to their BB account? How do you remedy it?

And...are there any downsides to running the "official" Gmail app vs. the BIS setup?

Yes, users have encountered the spam problem with forwarding mail to their BB account. The spam is coming to the BB account address, which is not filtered. you remedy it by not using that address.

The only downside to using the gmail application is that the app does not give alerts through profiles. You must check the mail manually to see if anything new is there.

Soooo...if I deleted the forwarding of my Gmail to my BB account...I should not be recieving any more spam messages since the excellent Gmail spam filter should be active...correct?

And, I agree with the downside of the Gmail app. Really looks nice...but I would much rather have alerts through profiles.

Gmail = excellent spam filters, some slow down in delivery, although most say it is rare.

BIS email address = NO spam filters, faster message delivery.

Lots of people like the gmail app, I don't need an additional thing to check on a regular basis. I would send it straight to my BB, no forwarding, if it were me.

I know I'm a newbie to all this, but instead of simply forwarding to your @blackberry address, why not setup your gmail account in BIS? I've done this with my gmail accounts - only the inbox items come through, and the SPAM items never make it to my blackberry.

I haven't noticed a speed issue either. When sending to my gmail - I click "send", and before the inbox refreshes my blackberry LED blinks.

Anoyone know how to logout from an account in gmail app??
From what I can see, once you log into an account, there's no way to log out so as to point to a dif't gmail account.

I'm finding that my gmail account through BIS (simply added the address and password on the TMobile website) only pushes email every 15 minutes or so. I'm a newb with the BB, can someone assist?

gmail through BIS is near instant. from about 30 minutes after i set it up until now its very close to instant.

you can hit the menu button and go to "more" then "settings". From there you can uncheck "always keep me signed in". This will sign you out if you use the "exit Gmail" option from the menu. Or you can also just click "Sign out" from the menu.

Its pretty much instant. If you are experiencing a delay it might just be that all gmail accounts are slow pushing out emails at that particular time. It happens from time to time. But for the most part all emails from Gmail are pushed immediately to the phone.

The new update to the gmail app allows u to have alerts just like for bb regular mail by going into the profile settings.

I'm using the BIS gmail setup and I'm impressed with the speed of delivery and freedom from spam. And if I need to hunt through old messages, I find that gmail works very well in the BB browser.

I use both ... I use Gmail Pushed from BIS (IMAP) and when I want to search for a older email that is not on my handheld I use the gmail app and search from it. Great system for me and works fantastically!

Since we're on the subject... Does the gmail app support multiple send identities, as the web-based gmail does? And...does it allow editing of quoted text, as web-based email does but the BB email does NOT (to my annoyance)? I'm beginning to wonder if it wouldn't be better to use the gmail app as a mail aggregator.

Indeed. I love this feature.

Also, under Profiles, there's a new "Gmail - New Mail" item so you can set up an alert for Gmail with the Gmail app.

It turns out that GMail was slow at the time but now it's instant. I just had to be a little more patient so I could be impatient.

Does anyone know how to force the Gmail app to use a Wi-Fi connection? I'm currently sitting without a WAP connection, and although I can always use Wi-Fi via the browser (ie. Inet Gmail), it would be nice to use the app.

Any suggestions?
