Question Upgrading from 7100t to 8700g

Please Login to Remove!

So i ahve been convinced that I want to upgrade from the 7100t to the 8700g on TMobile and have the following questions:

1. Can I transfer all the existing email (45 days worth) on the 7100t to the new device?
2. How about tranferring settings (SMS SPRS preferred, confirm if sent, etc., etc.)?
3. If I want to keep the 7100t as a backup and use it at a PDA or a cell phone only, can I sync two devices to the same PIM? I am likely to use my unlocked 7100t as a phone with a local sim card when I travel overseas. It is great to have all phone numbers already available and pay local charges for phone calls while still use the TMobile one for emails.
4. How much time should I expect to spend to set the new 8700 device up (synching 1000 contacts, 3000 calendar appointments, installed 411, google, couple of games plus whatever else is required)?

I use BIS, with emails forwarded to the device.

Thanks!

Use the Backup facility found in Desktop Manager. Then restore to the new 8700g. The messages store will transfer all your e-mail (and contacts, notes, tasks, calendar, blah blah blah). Before transferring BBs, I normally make two sets of backups.

Basically it will transfer everything except Over The Air apps, which have to be reloaded.

I've never tried syncing two devices. Never look back at the old BB

It should not take that much time - except to reload OTA applications and set them up.

Do the old settings for profiles, ringtones etc all get transferred to the new BB or just the emails and cal. stuff?

Not sure if ringtones go - I don't think so, but they might.
I don't think ringtones, themes and wallpapers go over.

Before I sold my BB7520, I backed up my application data (which of course includes profile settings and all) for later use such as restoring it to my new handheld.

Follow NJBlackBerry tip and do backup. Just in case.. with mine, I didn't

Anyway, when I did restore using the backup file from my old BB, the theme, the profile, the phone book, the emails, saved emails and everything was uploaded to my new device. Which of course I panicked co'z the set up for my service book was now the same as my old bb.

All I did was removed the data I got from my back up and upload my service book again and just restored the data I choose.. which were the phonebook and my CryptMagic datas only. Now I just got what I needed from my old BB and I'm good to go again.

Anyone know if two different models (e.g. 7100t and 8700g) can be synched to the same PIM at the same time? One after the other, of course. If you have two devices, can you please try and let me know?

hmmm... never tried. I guess you could, but you would want to set one to only import from Outlook so as to not potentially overwrite data.
