Default BB via USB to PC not working

Please Login to Remove!

Hi ppl. I got my fantastic Pearl yesterday and one of the first things >I did was hook it up to my pc, after installing all of the programs of course ( i read the 101). I put one song in my music file just to see if it worked and it did!!!... But the next time I went to connect it to my pc it kept making that anoyying "clunking" sound when you connect a USB connection. It sounds like it connects "dong ding" and then disconnects "ding dong" very rapidly, and in the device manager it says "device not found".
I hope someone can shed some light on my situation.
Many thanks in advance.
Peter

What operating system?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Blackberry Desktop Manager?
Also, are you using the most recent version of BBDM? (4.2 SP1)

Default connection

hi,

very new to this but i had a similar problem and turned out that the connection was really fussy and had to be connected, now i can't remember which way, but either put usb in computer first then to phone or it could be the other way- doesn't connect of you get it the wrong way round!

You didn't answer two of my questions.
Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the Desktop Manager software?
Did you verify that you are using 4.2 SP1?

I might add that the connecting noises keep repeating, as if I were plugging the bb in and out repetidly.
Thanks

I'm sorry, Peterino. I would like to help you, but you're just making it too difficult. I'm sure someone else will come along and try to assist.

Sorry about that, I didnt see your message, my last one was posted nearly at the same time.

I have reinstalled (after uninstalling) various times, I have switched of the pc, the mobile, and still everytime I connect the BB to the PC, the system recognises it, then goes mad and starts making those clonking noises it does when connecting and disconnecting a USB device. I have downloaded the newest version of software from the bb website (SP1), and have no idea what the problem could be. :(
It worked the very first time I connected it, then 2 minutes later wouldnt have it.
Thanks, and sorry for the confusion, I have sooo many windows open atm trying to work this out.

Have you tried different USB ports?
Are you connecting directly to a USB port on the computer, or are you going through a USB Hub?

Maybe it's a bad cable. If you have a different cable, you could try that.
Beyond that, sounds like you're doing everything right, so maybe it's just a defective handset.
