Has anyone used BB maps with 8703 from Alltel? I enabled location based services and when I try to use the GPS is never locks on satellites. Alltel advertised GPS but for some reason it's not working...or am I doing something wrong?

I was not happy with Sprint so moved to Verizon and now have a 8703e. Why can't I get the GPS service that Sprint has? Is it coming in the future?

hey guys the 8703e from verizon has the gps disabled i am sure once verizon figures out how to charge us for it we will get it

No Problems. It has been working for me.

Same problem here. I can't get my telenav account to work on it either, it comes up and says No GPS. I have Location Based Services turned to ON. Is there anywhere else I need to turn the GPS on?

Same thing here. I just chocked it up to not staying still long enough for the GPS to get a lock, but I gave up after a while. I also noticed that on my Alltel 8703e I don't have the options that I had on my old 7520 either. I used to be able to get a location fix without the mapping software just to make sure it worked, but it's not an option on the 8703e.

I just got my 8703e with Alltel today and was unable to get the gps to work with bbmap. I verified the location based service was set to on.

GPS can take quite a while to lock on the very first time.

Mine gives me an error, 'unable to acquire GPS lock', which stops the GPS in the BBMap application.

Same here. Never been able to get a GPS lock. Location is turned on as well.

Talked to my Alltel rep. She said that her regional data rep showed her the GPS working on his 8703e when he first got his. I asked what application he was using. I suspect it's Telenav. I asked her to have him download BB Maps and try it then but I haven't heard back yet. I'm beginning to suspect Alltel has GPS funtionality locked down and will only allow it for Telenav. Anybody out there with an Alltel 8703e using telenav that works? I bet there is...

I just switched from the 7130e to the 8703e today and the first thing I did when I got back in my office was purchase the Telenav monthly plan and download the software OTA. It worked the first time I tried it and locked in while I was sitting in my office in less than two minutes.

I have Alltel and I am in an EVDO area of East Texas.

OK, so we know the Alltel 8703e works with Telenav.. Anyone working successfully with ony other GPS app (BB Maps, Spot, Etc.) Report your success or failure...

I talked to an Alltel tech guy from Tampa today. He is using BB Maps on his 8703e. We walked through some of the settings on my BB and after I was still unable to get a GPS lock, he suggested I reinstall Maps - didn't help. So looks like it's working in some areas, but not all. BTW I have tried BB Maps in both EVDO and 1x areas. Trouble ticket should be opened with tech support early next week. If you are not able to get BB Maps to work, might be a good idea to go ahead and call Alltel's tech support so they can have plenty of examples to look into the issue. (800-alltel-1 option 3)

Yeah, I suspected as much. Greedy ISPs. You gotta love them. Always looking for ways to build that customer loyalty...

Upon further review, this may not be a dead issue. I have apparently stumbled upon an engineer that is high enough up the chain to affect things. Stay tuned.
