Question Please advise: The Curve 8300 a good PDA?

Please Login to Remove!

I really need advice. I am considering getting a Curve 8300. I mostly want it for the PIM functions since I have had a PDA off and on for years. Biggest questions for me are:
1] Is this a good choice for calendar, contacts, and to-do-lists?
2] Does it easily sync with Outlook 2007 on the Desktop without having to buy 3rd party apps?

I will not use the phone for checking email or websurfing at this point. Just want to get this rather than investing in a new PDA/Pocket PC.

The only other phone I was thinking of is the Blackberry Bold but that is a Lot more bucks than I want to spend.

Thanks very much.

The BB is adequate for what you say you need (and without a data plan).

Contacts, calendar, notes and tasks will sync with Outlook using Desktop Manager which is a free download from RIM and comes on the CD with the device.

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

If you are NOT getting a data plan, you may want to look at other devices. NOT necessarily BB

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

I think the Curve is more than adequate functioning as a PDA. Though you won't get the most out of the device without a data plan its definitely better than having two separate devices.

I have an 8310 and have had with and without data plan. Extremely good for PDA functions as that was the reason I bought the darn thing. Works great with Outlook 2007, as an MP3 player, read/edit word, view pdf, etc. You don't have to have a data plan. All that said, much more fun to have the data plan. Also much easier to install all of the free goodies available. Watch out though cause once you go data plan you don't go back.

I would def. recommend the BB for a new PDA. I had a HTC Touch and I didn't really like A) the touch screen and B) it's functionality as a "PDA." I use my BB for EVERYTHING! With the right theme, and I can suggest some, you can have calendar entries (kinda like to-do lists) right on the homescreen. I use that since I like to be able to remember when things are due and whats coming up. As for the Outlook, I don't use it so I wouldn't know but these guys on here def. know what's up. The calendar function is really nice and the contacts function is the best I've seen. I have multiple things for different contacts... i.e. name, address, e-mail, where they work.

I hope this helps since I LOVE my BB Curve 3330. I don't think I'll ever get another type of PDA!

I also have the unlimited everything plan, but that's your call if you want that or not! The internet is pretty sweet to be able to check things when you don't have a computer accessible.

If you won't have a Data plan, how about a Pearl? It's a great small PDA.
