Default Loading 8700c 4.2 OS on unlocked formatted 8700g...

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys, I acquired a used BlackBerry 8700g that is being used on a T-Mobile network. I have a Cingular/AT&T SIM card and want to use that in this T-Mobile 8700g. I am getting it unlocked tomorrow by T-Mobile (called and told them I need to use an international pay as you go SIM card) so I will be able to run my Cingular SIM card in this T-Mobile 8700g as far as I've read.

My only concern is that I want to upgrade to the new 4.2 OS and this is only available from Cingular/AT&T for the 8700c. If I use Javaloader to totally wipe my 8700g, will I be able to load the Cingular 4.2 OS for the 8700c onto this T-Mobile 8700g via Desktop Manager? Or are there hardware differences between the 8700g and 8700c? Thanks for any info!!!

you can install att software just install the software
just don't forget to delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
after installing the device software

then run the desktop manager

IIRC at&t's not the only carrier with 4.2 for the 8700 but I think they do have the latest release.

All 8700's (specifically 8700's and not the 8703, 8705 or 8707) are identical internally. Load away!

Very nice, thanks for the info. I just rebuilt it last night, and I figured that I want to paint it. Has anyone ever modded their BlackBerry? I'm thinking of using some chrome spray paint over the entire exterior, then keeping the black sides, and then doing blue flames on the front and back. Then I'm going to coat it with some clearcoat lacquer finish to keep the paint from coming off too easy.
