Hi, can someone help me out with my problem.
My wifi works only when I enabled Data services in Mobile Network Options.
When I turn if off my wifi wont work.
In Manage Networks, my Wifi has a grayed out line and not check
If I add a wifi network, it keeps saying "Failed to Obtain IP Address"

I've tried the following
1) battery pull
2) reset phone
3) reset router
4) took out the security of the network
5) tried both WPA-personal and WEP
6) renamed the network
7) deleted the profile and added it again
8) changed routers

still the same problem occurs to me.
I have tested it on 3 routers, DLink, Netgear and Edimax

Device: 8520
OS: 5.0.0.348 (Platform 5.2.0.23)

IP in status is 0.0.0.0

I'm not quite understanding the issue. Why not just leave the data services to "on" or "off while roaming"?

If I turn off my data services, my wifi doesn't work either. I think that's normal.

Cause I dont have unlimited data so I need to keep my data services off.
Can you click manage connections, does your wifi have a green check on it? mine doesnt

Data services means data services, not wireless provider data services.
You won't ever get a green check mark unless you have a Blackberry Data Plan, and have data services turned on.

oh Data Services is different from GPRS / EDGE?
How can I disable GPRS / EDGE then?

Turn off the radio. Unfortunately no voice or SMS.

Some people have said they have had some luck with turning data on until a Wi-Fi connection is established and then turning it off. Apparently the Wi-Fi connection will continue to function, but if it drops off the Blackberry won't send data by GPRS/EDGE/3G. I've never tried that so I don't know for sure.

my wi-fi connection is there but my bb curve 8520 always says: FAILED TO OBTAIN IP! i have been using the wi-fi service of the same place but now it doent work

same problem here! with the SIM Card in the phone it just does not connect, extremely irritating , having a bad experience with Blackberry, perhaps I should have stuck with Nokia as I have for the last 10 years!! less headaches, many many free apps and best of all, everything works smoothly!!

Is it your wifi tho or a neighbors or a neighboring business? In otherwords do you pay for the internet the wifi is connecting to?

If not they probly locked you out

Theres a rant forum if thats all you want to do, otherwise look and see if you have data services off, and if you do, read the posts 3 or 4 posts above yours

The AP is probably MAC-filtered, thus not issuing you an IP address.
