Is it possible to just have the phone part of the Blackberry operative, but to disable the email part?
The reason is, I'd like to always be available to receive phone calls ... but in areas where roaming charges are made, I dont want the BB to be running up costs by checking emails.

I believe if you go to Options > Mobile Network > Data Services = Off.

If you want to still receive emails without risking roaming charges, you can also go options>mobile network>network selection mode>home only (it's an option on sprint, no idea on others)

Now, you will only get data from your carrier, without risking roaming charges, and still have the phone and email enabled.

For my Verizon 8830 the option is "Off When Roaming"
