I had a 7520 for two years and not once did I ever have a memory issue. Thats strange. Are you using up the data memory on BIS or actual BB memory?

Do you have third party applications installed? Memory is not an issue on the devices. I typically have 4-5 months worth of Emails on my 7520.

I am on BES and the only 3rd Party software I have on the BB is Google Maps. I am thinking of wiping the blackberry clean and reactivating it on BES.

I heard today from my Nextel rep that Nextel is releasing a New Blackberry this summer. The rep did not have any other information to give me at this time but if I hear more I will tell all.

I already switched over to Sprint and am quite happy with the 8703e. Could not wait any longer with Nextel

Not going to happen. Sprint has stated all new devices will be CDMA and QChat will be released on Rev A devices for PTT services.

I think Nextel will release a new BB with Iden 2way and sprint cellular. Like everybody is stating all phones are combining the 2 networks.

THe new device could be CDMA for voice and IDEN for PTT my rep did not say. They have always been good with information to me. There is a marketing call tomorrow and they told me that if they hear anything new they will let me know. I hope it comes out soon, I need an upgrade.

If you can't, then all you're doing is spreading more speculation and unsubstantiated rumors, nothing more!

Earlier in this thread, I backed up the statements I made with links to my sources, links that contain the only verifiable information to come out so far in regards to a possible new for the Nextel iDEN network.

The burden of proof is now upon YOU! Are you man (or woman) enough to back up YOUR statements?

I hear you. I also got tired of waiting for Nextel. Nextel used to get the new BlackBerries before the CDMA carriers. But now, Verizon and Sprint both have an 8700 and Nextel still hasn't gotten one!

After a year of seeing all those shiny new 8700s, it was more than I could take. With RIM and Sprint Nextel making NO statements about the 8702i, I said "screw you guys!" and got myself a shiny new 8700g on xxx9642;Txxx9642; xxx9642; xxx9642;Mobilexxx9642;. I'll be porting over my Nextel # in a few days, and that will be that.

But man, how could you do what you did? How could you support the evil empire that took over and ruined Nextel?!? Couldn't you have at least taken your business to someone else?!? Sprint doesn't deserve your business, or my business, or anyone's business.

Wow. No, I don't have any links or Web sites to point you too. I am merely a legacy Nextel Platinum Dealer and I have a very good relationship with my Nextel/Sprint rep as well as our RIM rep.

All I can relay is the information I was provided by our RIM rep at a presentation in November. The lack of a new iDEN BB was based upon RIM's device volume requirement from Sprint/Nextel and they were not willing to commit to the volume requirement. Could this possibly change - perhaps - but given all the other changes Sprint has made I highly doubt they will commit to a volume of iDEN units.

There have been plenty of releases on QChat and Sprint is rolling out Rev A quite rapidly. I don't know if ther initial 8800 will have QChat but the goal was to move BB users to CDMA and QChat.

Take my info for what it is I guess.

geez I have never seen so much negativity in one thread. I for one love my nextel. I havent had one issue with Sprint since they have taken over. I actually have more features available now than I ever have. I have switched my wife over to CDMA with the Katana and she loves it.

Can you show us this statement? i missed it.

Dawg I agree. people lie all the time, figures dont. Gartner released a study recently on messaging market trends, which is very insightful if you have access to it. (Talks about the amounts of data being transmitted over mobile devices plus various other things) Also did you know RIM's shares almost doubled this year? RIM need not care about the amount of units sold anymore. They have opeaned up to other vendors to do the foot work, for instance Palms Treo running Blackberry software. So who is to say Motorola will not release a PDA for IDEN using BB? Is Nextel going Offline by 2008. now that its so close what do you think? 875,000 subscriber accounts were added in the 3Q alone! You cant tell me Sprint/Nextel does not want a larger piece of that pie.

As someone that sold cell phones for a little over a year myself, I know that you depend on your reps for a lot of info about what's coming up, and that's completely understandable. However... it was my experience that the reps are not always given the most reliable info. Oftentimes, I'd ask them a question about a phone that was known to be coming out in, say, a month, and they'd have no clue what the phone was. So, I guess it all depends on how well your rep's been informed as to what's really going on.

All I know as far as Sprint Nextel goes is that when I sold Nextel, our Nextel rep wasn't told ANYTHING until a phone was due to hit Nextel corporate stores within a week or less. For example, my Nextel rep didn't tell us about the 7520's launch until 3 days before it was hitting stores! She showed up on Friday and told us "by the way, this new BlackBerry goes on sale Monday at the corporate stores". If she was typical of Nextel reps, then the company may just be keeping their reps in the dark.

I've known about Sprint's plans to switch over to QChat since before the merger was even completed, but I've never personally seen any concrete info on what precisely they're planning. Then again, I got out of the cell phone business about 14 months ago to take a better job elsewhere. So I've missed out on all that fun "behind-the-scenes" info that I used to occasionally be told.

Anyway, thank you for clarifying where your info came from. That's all I was looking for... a little clarification to back up your statements. Now people know where you're getting your info, so we don't think you're just pulling it out of your arse!

Well, I'm glad she loves her Katana. And I loved Nextel, too... back when they were actually NEXTEL, before they joined forces with the Evil Empire, AKA Sprint!

As far as negativity goes, I've seen much more negative stuff on BBF, especially when people start bashing newbies. And this place is tame, compared to some of the flame wars that have occurred over at HowardForums!

But then again, that's why I stopped regularly going to their Nextel forum a long time ago.

I don't think you will see I DEN die. It is used heavily here in the South, especially Alabama, where we(public safety) depend heavily on it.....with Southern Linc......It is big in the Middle East and South America also....

My wireless specialist in WA just told me that Sprint is about to start folding the NEXTEL iDEN network.
I read on CNET that this will all be finalized by 2010...
Not that you are going to have the same device in 2010 as you do right now, but why are people still buying NEXTEL?
My college landscaping experience taught me that it takes 50% longer to conclude a conversation with the stupid walkie-talkie feature [you can begin flaming....now] than with a regular phone call.

Well post something thats not common knowledge we all got emails telling us this. But with a phone call it cost you minutes and you have to wait for the other person to answer if they will you dont even know if they are available or their phone is on. With my DC i can accomplish three times as much with a nextel. I use 2300 dc minutes a month if I used that amount of phone minutes I would have an enormous bill. Hell my wife went over 18 minutes and it cost me 48.00

Well, I'm glad you guys are happy giving your money to the Evil Empire that bought out and then RUINED Nextel!

But as for me, I will NEVER AGAIN give my money to Sprint, the company that ruined the best cell phone carrier I've ever used!

I've even heard that in 2004, Nextel did a small beta test of a data network called Flarion (sp?) that would've blown EV-DO away for speed! 3G? Try more like 4G! We're talking speeds comparable to cable broadband and Verizon's new FIOS internet! Try d/l speeds of 4 mbps... wirelessly!!

Unfortunately for us all, this potentially awesome upcoming data technology was SCRAPPED by Sprint when they bought Nextel. And Sprint has also shut down the WiDEN network (Nextel's equivalent to EDGE), so there's no high speed data service at ALL on Nextel now!

So, all I can say is... goodbye Sprint, and go to hell!! It HASN'T been pleasant!

This is, of course, just MY opinion. If you're happy with your service from the Evil Empire, good for you! I can only hope that they don't some day screw you over the way they screwed over all the loyal Nextel customers!

Of course, that hope is in vain if you WERE one of the loyal Nextel customers.

IMHO, the writing is on the wall for the Nextel iDen network. Would not be surprised in the least if we've seen the last of the new iden phones and from here forward they market cdma even if the phone style is nextel -- probably the "brains" inside will be the CDMA.
