Okay, so I just moved and my Internet Provider has not hooked up my DSL yet so I have been tethering my 8800 to my laptop. I am locked in at a speed of 115.2 kbps.

I hope I don't seem remedial by saying this but did you all know you can make phone calls, and send text messages while you are connected to laptop as a modem? I always thought that once you connect to the laptop as a modem...you can't do anything on the phone until you disconnect. Has this always been this way or is this new to the 8800?

It shouldn't be possible on EDGE. Are you sure your web browser pages aren't cached? Have you actually pulled a page request in the browser on your PC while on a phone call?

Hmmm... might be new on the 88xx series. Even on EVDO with my 7130e calls override tethered connection and bumps your offline while you talk on the phone, though it does reconnect you as soon as you hang up.

Doesn't a voice call simply suspend the data connection during the call, like woodi68 mentioned?

i.e. start downloading something big, then make a voice call ... see if the download continues while you're talking
