Has anyone been able to get this to work? I can complete the first step of pairing the device to the computer using the MS Bluetooth software; however, it shows no profiles in the services section. The second part, of getting the BlackBerry Device manager to find the device is where it fails. It cannot find the device. I haven't tried by using the non-MS Bluetooth software since the instructions call for the MS Bluetooth stack specifically.

I also found a bug in the Bluetooth implimentation for the Smart Card Reader that I am testing. I will post more on it in the Bluetooth section.

Getting Blutooth sync to work would be nice.

I wasn't paying attention when I went Bluetooth adapter shopping and picked up a Widcomm card. I definitely can't check the check box with this driver in place and haven't figured out how to force the Microsoft driver either...

I'm using a ThinkPad T42p builtin Bluetooth and here is how I got it to work.

0. Naturally make sure you have Bluetooth working on both devices and have made a successful pairing.
1. Open up the BlackBerry Device Manager.
2. Click on the Device Connection tab.
3. Make sure the Enable Bluetooth Support is checked.
4. Select the Configure Bluetooth button.
5. It will hopefully find your BlackBerry and show you the PIN and say BlackBerry 8700.
6. Go back to the Desktop Manager
7. Go to Options --> Connection Settings
8. Select Bluetooth **It should show Bluetooth-PIN: xxx (where xxx is your PIN **
9. Go back to the Desktop Manager and try IntelliSync

My problem is that I can get to step 5 and that is where it fails. The Desktop manager can't find the device that the MS software found when it paired. After you do the initial pairing, do you get any services showing for the 8700? I do not, even when I ask it to search for services on the device. I am using the MS Bluetooth stack, not the Widcomm stack.

I too don't get anything listed for Services when I check the properties of the 8700 using Windows. However when I look under COM ports it says COM4. Now when I look on the 8700 Bluetooth settings and look under Device Properties of the paired device, I have a listing under Services that says COM4.

I believe I'm using the Windows stack as well.

When you go to the BlackBerry Device Manager --> Device Connection tab, do you see "Bluetooth-PIN: xxx" where xxx is your PIN then a "Connected" under the State column?

No when it searches it never finds the 8700c. I have it set to discoverable.

Hello barjohn,

Darn, I don't know what to tell you. I went ahead and removed the pairing and started from scratch just to see if I missed anything. It worked again. I also tried the pairing with the 8700 initiating the pairing and it worked there too.

After the pairing, do you have the device as "trusted"? I know that I had a few stalls before I realized that it wasn't connecting because the 8700 kept prompting if it was okay for my laptop to connect to it.

Hopefully others will try and report whether they are successful as well. Perhaps there is something we're missing.

I wonder if this may be the problem. I had left a policy file in my Rsearch In Motion Folder and it is lacking settings for this:

On the BlackBerry device, the Bluetooth Options screen must display Desktop Connectivity and Wireless Bypass in the Services list.

Mine does not display this. Does yours?

Also, I cannot maintain a connection with the MS software and there is no connect option on the handheld.

Mine does list Desktop Connectivity and Wireless Bypass. I think you are right if your's doen't have this perhaps that's the problem?

Here's my Services listed in my Bluetooth Options on the 8700 for comparison.

Mine does not have it. I don't know if it is because I didn't have the entries in the policy.bin in my RIM folder or not. I just created a policy file but now must get it installed.

Mine is the same under services. It only list headset and handsfree. Did you figure out how to add Desktop Connectivity and Wireless Bypass?

I tried to fix it but nothing seems to put those services back. Policy changes didn't help, wiping and rebuilding the device didn't help. Fortunately I had two units so I checked the second unit and it had the services. Go figure. Maybe a call to RIM support can resolve this issue.

I got three for my company they are all the same only headset and handsfree for bluetooth services. There has to be a way to add them. Let me know if you find anything out.

If you are on a BES, you need to enable Wireless Bypass and Allow Desktop Connectivity in the IT Policy. These options are only available with 4.0 SP3 or later

BT sync with my 8700r works perfectly.
I had to pair the BB to XP with the XP BT wizard, then go into the Blackberry Device Manager and "Enable Bluetooth Support" and then Confiigure Bluetooth.

Once that was done I went into the Options > Connection Settings menu on the Desktop Manager and chose the BT connection.

For some reason the Sync didn't work properly for me the first few times, it kept giving me an error the the desktop couldn't read the data, or something like that.
But I've synced it a few times today and its worked fine.

NOW, if only I could figure out how to get the modem working over the BT connection. ;)

No it just tells you the two services you are missing. jnelson2000 has what I think is the right approach. My guess is that when they reflashed some of these units they were linked into a BES that had the policies set to disable the services on the ones that wound up missing the services and not on the ones that did not. Since the services appear on some and not on others.

barjohn, I had it working perfectly when I first got my 8700. I was using the BB email address and forwarding. Now, I just setup with a BES server and I can't get it to BT sync. It's not that bad cause I don't have to PIM sync anymore but I still sync a password program. Ugh... I guess in the process of re-installing the BB software, something got messed up.

Like you said, it's weird cause I can pair the PC and BB in Control Panel but it just won't see the BB in Connection Manager.
