Question Long Distance Option with Speed Dial?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I have my speed dial set up and was wondering if anyone has a workaround for using speed dial when I need to call it long distance.

For instance, I usually press "2" to call into the office, but if I need to call it long distance then I need to type in the "1" and area code and then the number. I was wondering if there was a way around this without programming a second speed dial key with the long distance version.

thx for any suggestions,
karen

I put in +1 xxx yyy-1234 on ALL my numbers. It will work fine for both local and long distance. Been doing that for years.

Well NJBlackBerry, I guess that's why you're a "Super Moderator"!

I tried it, and of course it worked. I thought I'd get that "the number you are dialling is not long distance" recording.

This forum is amazing...thx a mint for your solution!

enjoy-la!

You dont even have to put the +1 in the number. I have just the standard 10 digit number for all entries and it calls long distance only if needed.

I have never used a 1- in any number, but like D_fisher said, all my entries contain all 10 digits, maybe I never thought about it, since the last few places I lived required all 10 digits anyway. Maybe it had to do with carrier?

I travel outside of North America frequently. Put the +1 in front of the 10 digits allows it to work from anywhere...

Before I posted, I had it with the area code and number (but no "1" in front) but I got the recording saying it was a long distance call. (My simple mind never thought to test it the other way )

I suspect as nb_mitch says, it may be carrier specific. I tried a local number with the 1 in front and it worked, so I think I'm set.

enjoy-la!
