Default The day is here....

And there are no software updates available on the Bell web site... yet, all the marketing material at businessonthego.ca says that the 7250 is EV-DO capable. PRL still says 30380.... hoping to pay a visit to my friendly neighborhood Bell Mobility store once it opens

just so you know; bell mobility stores will NOT have information for customers regarding the availablity of the EVDO upgrade until they recieve an internal memo, which is usually not published until days end. I will help keep yous posted throughout the next few days.

Default Mixed Messages

So I called back into the call center (this is getting fun!). The rep intially told me that the upgrade would be done "over the air" and that it should already be done. I explained that I have a 7130 (a friend's) and my 7250 side by side, one has EVDO, one doesn't.

He then decided to call his "data support" contacts. They inturn advised that the update would NOT be available today, and it was going to be delayed a couple of weeks.

Can one of you gents working at the Bellworld stores confirm what the real deal is here?

This is, verbatum, what has been released to the Bell World stores.

As far as upgrading existing units, here's the official word:

"Customers currently using a BlackBerry 7250 device will be able to update their device to make it 1xEV-DO capable. Details on how customers can do this will be made available [soon]."

At least Bell is consistent and "dissing" their current clients across lines of business. I have experienced this on the satellite site as well. New clients getting better deals and access to services then existing clients.

I await patiently.

I don't think that this is a case of new customers receiving better treatment or more consideration than existing customers. The percieved delay here is due to the technical and organizational challenges involved with upgrading thousands of devices that are out in the field.

Agreed, and sorry for the typo's in the previous message, it really was a "quick" reply.

That said, for those tech savvy clients that prefer to download and flash they could have roled an early release, although I am sure support would have been an issue.

I don't beleive there is any way for end users to upgrade their BlackBerry's PRL. I may be mistaken here ... but I've never seen any carrier offer a downloadable PRL flash upgrade.

Exclamation Os 4.1

Bell has not released a bulletin regarding the availablity of the EVDO patch for the 7250. Customer service is saying it will be an automatic upgrade, while data service is saying that software will need to be updated. It has not been confirmed, but Bell may be delaying the upgrade patch for a few weeks. My suggestion besides waiting, is for anybody working at Bell store, open up the new 7250e software and download the application onto your computer and do the uprgade on your own device. I suppose that would work.

Other than that, i'm patiently waiting.

This raises a question and a comment ...

Q: Does the CD containing the BlackBerry Desktop software also contain the vendor's OS build? I didn't think that it did ... but I've never actually taken the time to look either ... If so, then yes, a Bell Mobility rep could copy and post the Bell Mobility 4.1 OS build before it is officially released for upgrades.

C: This will still not provide the upgraded PRL that is needed to access the EvDO network.

Default Updated 4.1 but need NEW PRL

I have update my 7250 with the new 4.1 software from another provider. I do have EVDO as a selectable network. But I still need the PRL to use EVDO. So... we still need Bell to release a PRL to the stores to be able to use the EVDO network.

I would assume the newly shipped 7250's will have this PRL already installed but are not in stores as of yesterday. Thus it would not be on the CD. this is not part of the 4.1 software.

Oh hey, look at that ... never thought to look in the networks list for that ...

Question for you shanerrs, what happens if you set "EvDO Only" on your device within a known EvDO area? I tried it on mine in an area that shouldn't have any EvDO signal: I received a warning that 1X traffic would not go through ... then I continued to operate normally with 1X displayed and no data connection problems.

I have EVDO, (1XEV) and daily on my way home I cross a bridge and the other side does not support EVDO. All that happens is the EV drops off and you are still up on 1X.

Subject: Bell Blackberry 7250 and EVDO

I understand that the Blackberry 7250's have been made EV-DO enabled as per advertising in the Bellworld Stores. The store personel have mentioned that they do not yet have the ability to upgrade old 7250's to make them EV-DO capable *yet*. As an XXXX employee I was wondering what the upgrade path would be to have this enabled on my 7250?
