Hi,

I believe I have version 4.2 because the Desktop Manager software is v 4.2.0.14 (aug 2006). Does it follow that my blackberry 8100 Pearl is also version 4.2? If not, how do I check?

If I do need to upgrade, is there an idiots guide to doing it? Will it wipe all my settings (APN etc)?

You need to have a internet browser for u to download theme from the blackberry web site..I believe you are using the wap browser, that's why you got that msg!

On your 8100, go into Options> about it will tell you what OS version you are running. Being a Pearl it is very likely you are on 4.2. The latest version can be downloaded from Cingular. Check the RIM Software Forum for instructions and where to get the latest releases.

OK, so I have v4.2 - (options/about).

I live in the UK, so I believe the browser is marked as 'Vodafone Live', and thats what get run when I goto 'Options/Themes/Download New Themes'. The page loads, and says I need >= o/s 4.1 . Perhaps its set to use WAP only? I really dont know too much about this...

I have just downloaded Mini Opera, and that works ok (so I think my APN etc is correct - and its not a WAP APN I am using either, its the UK Vodafone 'internet' APN), but when I browse to a url I found for themes, it tells something along the lines of (and dont quote me on this!) that i need to run it from a Blackberry browser...

Im a little confused now! Nowhere in my menu can I see 'browser' - only Vodafone Live.
