appreciate all advice.

I'd pay $10 a year more for better service, which is what I'm going to do.
I signed an AT&T contract about a month before the merger, and the call quality went into the toilet soon thereafter. More issues came up in recent months, and when I contacted Cingular via e-mail their response was about two sentences of addressing my issue, and about six paragraphs on how I can re-up my contract.
That's when I officially decided awhile ago that I'm making the jump from Cingular to Verizon.
I came very close to buying a 700p, but wasn't impressed when I played with it in the Verizon store. Then I found this forum and decided to wait for the 8703 to come out. I couldn't care less about cameras, MP3s or whatever (the Pearl won't suit business folks, so I don't care about that either).
If you want to look at differences, spend the $25 at the Consumer Reports website and see the rankings of service (both call coverage and customer service), and you'll see that Verizon is leaps and bounds above Cingular.
Obviously, coverage varies dependent on where you live and where you use the phone most of the time. But I'm in a major metro area, and Cingular drops out frequently. Not to mention that Verizon has better coverage and plans that better suit my calling and data habits.
The 8703 isn't going to be revolutionary (other than being on CDMA), it looks like a better 8700c or g. But I'm never one to jump on something brand new, I let the geeks find out what's wrong with something, then I'll buy it when they fixed the bugs. That's how I feel about the 8703, that it will have all the kinks idenitified by the 8700c/g users already and will work smoothly.
Good luck.
