I'm going to check with our National Rep today... We'll see if I can pre-order one, as someone else has...

From the "What it is worth Department"...

Last week I received a postcard from Verizon for tethering my VZW into my BB. It had pictures of the current line up. Offer ends on 9/15/06.

So based of this mailer, I don't see VZW coming out with a new BB will end of September. These post card mailers are very expensive and VZW could of easily promoted a new BB on this and get two messages with one mailer.

Anyway, food for thought. I did go to my local VZW store. The head technician agreed that a new BB is on it's way, but did not know the date of it's release. He said that the Treo 700W is junk. Allot of returns. Treo 700P is doing well. He also said that they get no compliants on the BB line.

I think that the new BB wont be out till later September and October like others had commented here. Be patient, it will be worth the wait. At least that is what I tell myself.

i'm a bb newbie and wondering if the 8703 is going to be worth the wait over the 8700c? i understand the CMDA will be quicker than EDGE technology, but right now, you can get a free 8700c on amazon. Is the CMDA really so much superior to EDGE that you'd be willing to wait however long and have to pay for the phone? any help would be appreciated.

I read a link awhile back that the EV-DO was about 10x faster than the EDGE network but that the difference would likely not be noticeable on a blackberry handheld. The difference in speed would be noticeable when tethering a laptop to your BB.

But that's just what I read. I have the 8700C and the web browsing speed is excellent. I have yet to be off the EDGE network and while searches on Google sometimes take awhile, browsing sites like CNN or ESPN are excellent.

It really depends on what you're looking for. I wanted to always have my email on my mobile and to have the capability to browse the web here and there without having to power up my home PC all the time. Now in the time it would take my PC to boot, I already have the information I was looking for.

For me, EDGE is more than adequate.

thanks for the feedback.

so if you're not planning on tethering your BB to your laptop and if you can't distinguish between the speed of EDGE vs EV-DO on a BB, is there any other reason in waiting to get the 8703? especially when you consider the 8700c is free (from amazon) and their data plan is $10 cheaper, $29.99 vs $39.99 for verizon.

appreciate all advice.

well,

1- lets say the company you work for gets awesome discounts on verizon plans (or your company pays for your cell phone on an established corporate verizon account)

2- You have an existing contract with verizon and don't want to shell out the $175 to cancel.

3- Your most frequently visited areas do not get good GSM service but great CDMA service.

4- Everyone you call is on Verizon's network thus making excellent use of unlimited mobile-to-mobile.

Those are just a few considerations to your questions...

This is just what I've gathered off these forums. I am new to Blackberries, and am just offering some advice on what I based my decision on.

loslappy makes good points, all of which were also figured in my decision to stay with Cingular when upgrading to a BB and not moving to another service provider.

I'd pay $10 a year more for better service, which is what I'm going to do.

I signed an AT&T contract about a month before the merger, and the call quality went into the toilet soon thereafter. More issues came up in recent months, and when I contacted Cingular via e-mail their response was about two sentences of addressing my issue, and about six paragraphs on how I can re-up my contract.

That's when I officially decided awhile ago that I'm making the jump from Cingular to Verizon.

I came very close to buying a 700p, but wasn't impressed when I played with it in the Verizon store. Then I found this forum and decided to wait for the 8703 to come out. I couldn't care less about cameras, MP3s or whatever (the Pearl won't suit business folks, so I don't care about that either).

If you want to look at differences, spend the $25 at the Consumer Reports website and see the rankings of service (both call coverage and customer service), and you'll see that Verizon is leaps and bounds above Cingular.

Obviously, coverage varies dependent on where you live and where you use the phone most of the time. But I'm in a major metro area, and Cingular drops out frequently. Not to mention that Verizon has better coverage and plans that better suit my calling and data habits.

The 8703 isn't going to be revolutionary (other than being on CDMA), it looks like a better 8700c or g. But I'm never one to jump on something brand new, I let the geeks find out what's wrong with something, then I'll buy it when they fixed the bugs. That's how I feel about the 8703, that it will have all the kinks idenitified by the 8700c/g users already and will work smoothly.

Good luck.

How about a little less talk and a lot more action?

You posted over on Howard that you'd have details and pictures of the 8703, yet you failed to come through on that.

You solicited for people to PM you about information on Boy Genius, and you fail to come through on that.

You say you're sick of 'the crap' that comes from these boards, yet you contribute farily regularly, mostly just attacking others.

Do you have a plan to back up your October 28th claim of the 8703's release, or are you going to continue to attack people who seem to have a history of coming through on their claims?
