Thumbs down Why don't they sell Blackberry batteries in any physical store?

<Rant>

Why don't they sell Blackberry batteries in any physical stores? Long story short... Verizon sends me the wrong model phone (8830) for an FRU replacement. They send it without a battery as usual. I called up Verizon and explained what happened, and said I'd rather keep the 8830, cause I hate the Pearl (SureType sucks!). They say no problem and agree to send me the 8830 battery for free. Never arrives. Call again to place order for 8830 battery, they send me the 8130 battery instead. Call again and they say that the 8830 battery is out of stock. I order it online from Verizon's website (If I knew that Verizon's customer service agents were incompetent, I would have done this in the first place!), where it is indeed in-stock! Probably won't get it til Monday now!

Now back to my original question, why don't they sell the batteries in any traditional brick-and-mortar stores? I must of called up half a dozen Verizon stores, a couple Verizon resellers, and even a few Sprint stores, cause they also carry the 8830. NONE of them sold any Blackberry batteries. Why is this? They carry plenty of other accessories, but no batteries!

Now I have a perfectly good new Blackberry that will be sitting for another 5 days because I don't have the battery for it. This is very annoying and frustrating!

Sorry to hear about the problems. I know some stores do stock the batteries, but not all. If you ever need anything feel free to PM me and I will handle it for you personally.

Check other carrier stores, too. I believe the 8830 from Sprint and the 8800 from AT&T take the same battery.

LOL, if you wanted to move to Canada I bet that Horizon Wireless stocks them in the physical store.

Hi guys. Thanks for understanding my frustration. I have checked several Sprint stores and an AT&T store.

It's not like I live in the middle of nowhere or anything... I'm in Philadephia, the 6th largest city in the USA! You would think at least one store on the east coast would sell batteries! It's not like they were out of stock... they just don't sell them!

All 83xx devices take the same battery--call ATT and TMo stores, also then. Or a 8700. Same battery.

In your frustration, please don't try any wild mad scientist experiments, e.g., hooking your BB up to a model train transformer to juice it up, or duct taping a group of AAA batteries together and applying wire and super glue---LOL. Saw earlier post where some guy, or his crew, took a soldering iron to his BB curve. Good luck with the batter deal.

It's funny that this was posted as my wife and I have been talking about looking into moving to Canada. The health care costs are 1000x's better then the US but we still have a lot of research to do as far as a job for myself and things of that nature go.

We're actually thinking about going across the border, (which is 1hr away from us) in another month just to look around and see what things are like over there as far as being away from the city as I refuse to live near one.

Thanks. I'm looking for an 88xx battery, not 83xx.

Blackberry's model numbers are too similar to eachother!

Anyhow, it's too late now... I already ordered the correct one online and it should arrive by Monday. I'll deal with the shortcomings of the Pearl's SureType (a.k.a. SureMistake) until then.

Question: I tried putting in the 8130 battery on the 8830 before I realized they weren't the same battery. I think the contacts on the 8130 battery may have touched the contacts on the 8830. Will this cause any problems for the 8830 once I do get the correct battery?

Nope, if anything the BB can tell if it is the wrong battery, and will give you the error symbol like when it is plugged in without a batt at all.

I tried to put a fully charged Pearl battery in my Curve when I first got it. You know did'nt want to charge the thing before I could use it and I got that error.

It is still working great, with no problems

On eBay, I bought my backup batter for my 8100 for $0.99 cents and $5.00 for my 8310. eBay is the best place to go, and the batteries are factory new.

The correct battery finally came yesterday and I am finally using my new 8830! The Pearl did give me one last horrah when trying to wipe the handheld. When trying to type "blackberry" to confirm that I wanted to wipe it, it thought I wanted to type "blacjbeeet". I am so glad to be done with that horrible device!
