Could AT&T be intentionally slowing the process to allow the Iphone to gain momentum?

Gain momentum? It's been selling well. I doubt it needs any more momentum.

Some speculate at&t is trying to get every last dollar they can, which is quite possible.

I agree with at&t getting every last cent out of the iphone before the Bold drops. Pretty pathetic that the US is last to get the phone though. RIM should work more closely with Verizon in the future.
I'm getting the Storm when it drops, the Bold is just old news to me at this point. at&t shot themselves in the foot on this one.

I bet they also release it at a much higher price then the iphone was released at. Just to keep iphone sales going, and for the apple to look more appealing.

AT&T has missed the boat on the Bold. I bet a lot of their customers are already sporting unlocked Rogers units. I sure am. I can't believe they've waited this long. Embarrassing for them.

Agreed Rambo, I would like to see the numbers for Rogers Bolds on the at&t network, and what % that ends up being of all Bolds on the network.

i Imagine when it is all said and done, the percentage will be very small. but right now, umm.. would say 90% of bolds on at&t are rogers.. ;)

Here's some 'news'

AT&T is pushing back the Bold for a while. Why? Because their network is already oversaturated with iPhone 3G users and their network cannot handle any more.

They STILL (as far as last week) have not certified the device.

A friend of mine who deals in sales in NA has told his american clients to not expect it anytime soon, it is AT&T stopping it from being released.

This is nothing new at all. We're all of aware of this and you can't place ALL of the blame on AT&T. If they were to release it now then everybody would be up in arms about the service as they were with the iPhone. As stated before the TA date was originally set for 10/20 according to a field tester that posts regularly over @ CB. Anything before that date is an incentive. I'm not sure though I would trust a sales guy, just my opinion.

So I may be jumping ship. Att really screwed this up in my opinion. Ive been waiting with this beat up old phone months now, and still NO RELEASE DATE, pathetic!!!!
I completely agree, pathetic. Even the friends I have at AT&T Mobility aren't being told the release date. No demos have been released for business customers, either. It's a sad day when your own company can't tell you when a product is being released, but you're expected to sell it. Hmmmm.

Has anyone else seen this article?

Post count prevents me from linking to the article at smstextnews.com/2008/10/blackberry_bolds_os_screw_up.html

"Blackberry Boldxxx8217;s OS screw up
Published by Ewan on Monday 6th October 2008, 09:23 | Related | Filed Under

Ixxx8217;ve been trying to buy a Blackberry Bold. Full price. No contracts. I just want the handset.

First I went into the Vodafone shop. None left in stock.

Carphone Warehouse? Despite my issue with their insurance, I popped in. None in stock. Theyxxx8217;ve all been sent back, Ixxx8217;m told xxx8212; big, big technical issues with the devicexxx8217;s operating system.

T-Mobile?

Yup, theyxxx8217;ve got them. Just, not right now. Big issues with the operating system, apparently. Wonxxx8217;t be back in stock xxx8217;til the end of the month.

Gahh.

Do I buy one from eBay? A bug ridden new Blackberry Bold?

Decisions, decisions."

This sounds contradictory to what is being spread across the net.

Anyone I know who works at RIM and has one LOVES their device. now mind you they typically run the newer beta code, but have heard no complaints.

If there is an OS issue, then RIM sends out a new OS and it goes onto the device, either the carrier or the end-user would update it I'd assume.

@ryan141 - I'm not sure what OS release the phones were loaded with, but I can say that that article/post is completely opposite from the experience I have had with my unlocked Rogers Bold. Perhaps I am in the minority, but I think most Bold users are having lower amounts of issues (unmet lofty expectations excluded).

I've said for awhile that from the way these delays sound ATT's 3g network isn't ready to handle thousands of BES Bolds in a launch. iPhone's launch was mostly regular folks, not corp networks. And they had problems with that. The Bold launch will be way bigger in numbers probably, and with big corp networks depending on their Bolds ATT has a lot to risk financially. The corps can just stay with their current 2g BBs until ATT guarantees that the new ones will work flawlessly.

I would like to have the Bold in hand; however my contract is not up until 12/1/08. Maybe it will be released by then and any bugs worked out.

There are launch invitations being sent out for the 16th of October, it would seem. Check here if you haven't seen this already:

Very good find and it appears that we may very well see the BOLD this month.
