Default Storm 9530 still won't update

I am running OS 4.7, I did all everything mentioned with removing the Auto Update etc from the DM, deleted the vendor.xml file and when I try and run the Loader it doesn't show the new OS. It just shows BB Messenger and Quickpull.

When I try and run it from DM it shows the new OS with a check box, when I click next it just gives me a message asking me to visit the BB website.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I do get my mails pushed to my phone, however I have something called a 'lite' plan which only allows access to mails and messenger and not the browser.

To setup my phone for mails all I had to do was go to the Vodafone website and enter my email address and password, I was not supposed to do any setup on my phone.

When I open the Services status page on my storm it shows the following

Mobile Voice
Status: Available

Blackberry Internet Service:
Connection: Not Connected

Blackberry Enterprise Server:
Connection: Not Connected

Mobile Network: EDGE

However I am able to send and receive my mails.

Do you think this is the issue?

Thanks.

Most likely. What I did to get around this was to make a backup copy of the 4.7 OS folder. Then delete all contents of the original 4.7 folder and then copy all the 5.0 folder contents into the 4.7 folder. If you don't have a 4.7 folder just install it first. Just install the same version you have installed on your BB now.
When you run loader.exe it should load the 5.0 from the 4.7 folder. Then after its done restore the backup 4.7 folder to the original 4.7 folder. After that you should be able to update normally.

Thanks for the reply.

What I just managed to do was take a friends SIM which had the complete BB Data Plan, insert it into my phone and then try the loader.

Finally this managed to solve the problem. It has taken about 45 mins for the update to go through but I think the new OS is well worth it.

Thanks for your tip on the Data Services.

Would this still apply if you are loading the OS by clicking loader.exe? Just wondering because the original post is about deleting the vendor.xml and then using BlackBerry DTM to finish the OS load.

Any info on this would be much appreciated Last time I tried it acted like it was going through the OS set up and then said it was finished with no change to the actual OS itself. I've had some issues, but those have all been worked out through the FAQ and old posts, and this is the main one I have been looking through for this current issue/question.

Ahh, I found the culprit! I was underestimating that. I just re-downloaded DTM, and did everything stated, but in the advanced settings during set up I got kinda lost. I'm going to do a little bit of looking around so I can get this fixed, thanks!

Yes, Loader as well as DTM will both need a data plan and not just a push mail plan.

You can check under the 'Services Status' on your phone, either BIS of BES should show connected.

However there is a post on this forum which also explains on how to do a clean OS Install, but I was not confident of doing that myself and I am not sure whether that would also work without a valid BIS or BES plan.

Hope this helps.

That is not what I was asking, but thank you. I pay for internet for my BlackBerry and my laptop so that is not a concern of mine.

There were two different methods for loading the OS, and I was just seeing of John Clarks method would work for both methods.

Edit: And I must say thank you to John and his quick response, he must watch this thread like a hawk I've already fixed DTM and downloading OS 5.0 for my 8520 Can't wait!

I was able to update my OS, issue resolved! Though I followed John's instructions, I was still having issues. Here is the link to the thread where the resolution was found, in case anyone else has the same problem:

Once you get to jsconyers posts it starts coming together. He helped me find the temp vendor.xml file, and it definately helped, I am now the proud owner of a 8520 with 5.0
