Default silencing ringing using the mute button

Please Login to Remove!

quick question... on the 8703 and the 8700 series in general, does pressing the mute button at the top of the phone while the phone is ringing silence the ringer completely or just for 3 seconds? on mine it seems to silence for only 3 seconds no matter what key i press (both of the sides and the top mute). i know the pressing the mute button kills the ringing completely on the pearl but i was hoping it would work on the 8703e too..

i know the trackwheel will silence it completely, but sometimes when i roll it i click and answer the call by accident.. is there another hard key i can use to silence my ringer completely?

I like this idea...I mean, who does not like JELL-O?! But, the more practical thing to do would be to press the call end key. I had the same experience as you with the Mute button, it only silenced for three seconds.

If you use the holster, slide it out and then back in real quick. That turns the ringer off, but doesnt shoot it to Vmail right away. Works great for me!

it would have to be berry jello of course...

i didn't think of the red button, it seems like such a simple answer! thanks! i wonder why the pearl doesn't do the three second thing with the mute button and the 8700 series does...

It must be Blackberry Jello but sometimes Blueberry will work. Never tried Rasberry

Problem is, that if you hit the hang up button you loose the call. If you are standing there talking to someone and about to finish the conversation, and would just like to have the ringer silenced for a few more seconds while you finish the face to face, you can't do it! I hate that! I would love to be able to hit the "Mute" button to silence the ringer without having to interact with the phone any more.

Default Esape Button

I could be wrong but I think pressing the escape button twice will silence the ringer.

When I want to shut up the ringer, I just scroll the wheel down when the answer screen comes up. I forgot what the two options are called (probably Answer & Ignore). Just by scrolling down to the bottom option you'll silence the ringer. If you want to dump them into vmail, scroll down and click your scroll wheel.

Dunno.. If you're answering your phone while trying to scroll it down to ignore, you need to practice using the scroll wheel! I use this method ALL the time, and have never mistakenly answered a call. It works without even taking the BB out of it's holster. I use it with the BB in it's holster (on my belt) daily. I scroll it as soon as I feel it vibrate to silence the ringer - even if I plan on answering the call.

Your call is going to go to VM after 30 seconds no matter what you do.

You have not "lost the call", you simply need to look and see who called and call them back. I put my phone on silent/vibrate when holding conversations and meetings.

The red button works for me when I am having a unplanned converstaion.

30 Seconds? Can't you change the number of rings before going to VM? On the Bell network we can use *94# to do this. e.g. #941 for 1 ring, up to *949 for nine rings. (sorry it's a little off topic)

I just reach down and scroll the wheel while it's still on my belt. I don't even think about it anymore, and do it mid-conversation without taking my attention from whatever I'm doing.

Scrolling the wheel down only works if your alert sound is as long as the phone takes to go to answer machine. Does that make sense?

My ringer is just a business ring, and repeats over and over. Muting only silences one cycle of the ring, when it repeats, it sounds.

I have a pearl.

I'd love to be able to silence the ringer until the call goes to a/m. I could do it on my Nokia, but not the Pearl.

HELP?
