Default Tour squishes wide-screen video?

Please Login to Remove!

I was playing w/a friend's Tour, and noticed that when I played some youtube clips that were wide-screen they played wide-screen on my Pearl, but were being squished to 4:3 on the Tour, resulting in very skinny, strange looking people.

I didn't find a setting to avoid this - is this the way the Tour works for Youtube/streaming video, always changes the aspect ratio to fit in the screen, or can you set it to play the streaming video in wide-screen aspect?

Thanks!

Sorry - forgot to mention that he is running the 5.x OS, not sure exactly what release, I think from what he said, either .140 or .230?

35 views and no reply? I thought there were a few Tour users around here... ;)

If you don't have an answer, can you at least confirm if you are seeing the same thing when you stream wide-screen videos on your Tour?

Just tried it on my and it shrinks it too. Don't remember how they used to look on my curve or pearl. Not sure if there is a setting somewhere but don't think so.

Try changing the browser setting's Default View from Page View to Column View and see if that makes a difference. Or vice-versa. Open browser, menu > options > General Properties. If that doesn't fix it, then the problem is with YouTube, not the device.

ps. not all Tour users watch YouTube vidoes.

Thanks for the replies!

Sydman - I can confirm that the Pearl shows them widescreen...very, very tiny, but wide screen.

Daphne - Thanks for the suggestion. The browser was set to Page View, and I'll give it a shot, but I don't have high hopes that going from full-screen browsing to column mode would make the video look right.

You must be right - maybe few Tour owners watch Youtube videos. I was pretty surprised that I couldn't find any discussion of this issue in this forum...I thought I just wasn't using the right search terms, but maybe folks just aren't doing it or don't care.

Bummer for me if this is the way it's going to be...the main reason I'm thinking about upgrading from my Pearl (and its beloved small form factor and suretype keyboard) is for more memory and a bigger screen for browsing, email, and watching streaming and SD card videos. Much of the Youtube content that I tend to watch seems to be widescreen, and the compressed view of that on the Tour is bad.

Hmmm...maybe the Storm2, gets me WiFi, but then I lose a real keyboard and get a phone that weighs as much as a boat anchor. ;)
