Default Storm 9530 SOS

Please Login to Remove!

So I have a friend who has a Verizon Storm (unlocked). She said that the voice aspect used to work fine until she told our carrier to activate BIS. Since then, the phone does not make any calls and says SOS in the corner.

It's not something with her SIM card, because her SIM card works in my blackberry ( messages started coming through ).

I told her to tell our carrier to take of the BIS, and they did, but the problem persists.

I put my SIM in her phone and it changed from SOS to TSTT-GSM ( It's not supposed to be this )

I put her SIM card back in and still says TSTT-GSM.

I put my SIM card back in and it went to SOS...

I put her SIM card back in and it's back to TSTT-GSM

I called our provider and they said everything looks fine on their side. They even updated the account but that has not helped.

I'm thinking.. Would it have something to do with the Verizon OS? Will reloading the OS and deleting the vendor.xml file make a difference?

The phone came preloaded with a 5.0 OS.

I mean, I don't have anything to lose by reloading, but I don't have the cable with me now so I have to wait till I reach in the office. Thought I would just get some opinions in the meanwhile.

Thanks.

Another update. When My SIM card is int he phone now. It says TSTT-Bmobile.

It's really only supposed to say Bmobile. Still can't make any calls with my SIM card in.

Edit... Now it changed to SOS with my SIM in..

Edit What I don't understand is why after wiping the phone with JL_CMDER, her pictures are still on the phone? She does not have a memory card.

For me, that would be the FIRST thing to do, get a SIM swap at the carrier.

IIRC, we've been through this before, on your device?

Costs nothing to try.

If the device is wiped... clean... how are you seeing the pictures?

You're not listening.

On the SIM, the OP says HER sim does not work in her device. Regardless of where it MIGHT work, it does not work in her device. Swap it for a new one.

You didn't answer my question on the pictures. IF the device is wiped with JL Cmder, how are you seeing the pictures. A wiped device will not boot up. How are you seeing the pictures on the device.

Yes but my troubleshooting skills show me that..

No SIM works in her phone. The problem can't be the SIM.. Then, according to your logic.. I should swap every SIM?

If my SIM was not working in her phone, then I could narrow it down to the SIM..

After reloading the OS. I see the pictures in Media - Pictures.

No contacts or messages are present though.

1. Ok, then rely on your troubleshooting skills.... and if that is what you intend to do, why are you posting a query here about the issue?

No, just the SIM you intend to use IN that device. Only. Try it. If it doesn't work, then you have ruled out one more possibility.

It's called troubleshooting.

2. Ok. You didn't say you had reloaded the OS. So, it wiped the application memory and not the device memory. Two different things. The 9000 includes 1gb of device memory on which those pictures are stored (not the Media Card).

I did say that.....

I'm not sure how our carrier works here.. It's not like how you guys have it. We can't just walk in stores and get new phones if something is wrong with one or swap new SIM cards.

So can we rule out that SIM swap option please?

When you wiped with JL_CMDER did it leave the device with a JVM 507 error?

Yes. There was a 507 reload software error.

The fact that my SIM card does not work in the phone, but hers works in mine puzzles me as well..

Could it be something with the phone?

hmm... and the first three items IN the KB article are
Quote:
  1. The Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card is not properly inserted into the BlackBerry smartphone.
  2. The SIM card is scratched or damaged.
  3. The SIM card contacts are oxidized.
I think you're on to something here. I don't think you can RULE OUT what you have not tested.

If a vendor, even your carrier different than ours in the US, sells you a bad SIM or your SIM is bad regardless, they won't swap it for you, trade it in or give you credit on another?

No, I don't rule it out until you have done it.

You are skipping one major piece of the troubleshooting. Not your troubleshooting maybe, so perhaps you need adjust your troubleshooting process to include suggestions and input from others, which is why I asked earlier why are you posting this here if you immediately disregard the input you receive.

I'm NOT disregarding your input. I've already proved that the SIM works fine. Why do I need to get a new one?

Wipe the SIM contacts on the phone.
The metal prongs the card touches, wuick wipe with your finger, and try again.
If no SIM card works in her phone (at all or properly) it could be the that the prongs aren't correctly seeing the sim card.

That is the GPS indicator

You certainly are. You've argued against that one single step this entire thread.

I've seen many many times that a SIM would not work in one device, and would in another. And a second SIM would work in the original device.

And when the user finally swapped the SIM for a new one, guess what happened when the new one was inserted the device?

It's happened to me on two occasions as well.
