I'm using midpssh on a BlackBerry 7510 (4.0) with BES 4.0 and MDS. I can connect to any host with a public IP address. Works great!

However, I am unable to connect to any hosts on my private network where the BES resides. After entering the private IP address of one of my servers, the midpssh console sits there with blank screen and blinking cursor until it eventually times out.

I also tried muTelnet, with the same results.

I have seen other posts where people claim to be able to connect to hosts on their private networks, and I would like to know if there is some additional configuration that must be done on the BES/MDS.

Any insight to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I believe somewhere in IT Policies it specifically allows or denies access to your internal network. Try there first. I'll look for sure tomorrow when I get to work.

I checked out th IT policy, and the default state for "Allow Internal Connections" is TRUE. Just to be sure, I created a new policy for my self and set it to TRUE anyway. No luck.

I'm going to keep digging around...

Do you have any intranet staff sites you can access with the web browser to make sure it's not related to that.

Otherwise try telneting from a command prompt on the BES server to one of the servers in question. Make sure the connection is even allowed from hostA to hostB inside your nextwork.

I am able to access all of our Intranet sites with the BB browser, using our private DNS hostnames or IP addresses. Also, I able telnet from the BES server to any of our internal hosts.

It's puzzling... when I telnet from the BB to a public host, I don't see the session on the BES in netstat.

Check your MDS setting maybe. It's possible the port is blocked?

wasn't the MdsLogin.conf file supposed to be edited? or was that for 3.6 only? might as well try? change the company.com domain to your internal domain name.

...save a copy of your original. stop/restart the MDS service after you make the change.

p.s-with all that said, i don't have this file edited on our 4.0 server and i am able to access the intranet sites and use midpssh... heh.

*edit (wow, this is fun - on-the-fly edits as the brain thinks): is your default browser set as the 'blackberry browser'? just curious. change both 'default browser' and 'default mds browser' to 'blackberry browser' (maybe?).

I'm on BES 4.0; which was in-place upgraded from 3.6. So, I checked out the MDSLogin.conf and changed MYCOMPANY.COM to our internal domain name -- that didn't help.

Yes, my default browser is the BlackBerry browser.

The strange part is when I try to connect to a private host, muTelnet triggers the firewall popup on my BB, I accept, then it appears to connect and only shows a blank screen. I tried to doing some input of CR's and spaces, which didn't help. After about one minute, the connection is closed.

Just curious... have you tried this with a different device? Or tried reloading the telnet software?

or does the MDS log show anything? with MDS, you can set different logging levels and functions. check that.
