8700c vs. 8800
Please Login to Remove!
Hey guys, I am new to blackberry. I recently sold my Iphone (for many different reasons) and have always loved the blackberry. I use AT&T and have the option of getting the 8700, 8700c, or the 8800. Is the 8800 really worth getting over the 8700 model? Also, which is harder to type on? If there is a thread on this already, please feel free to forward me to it. Thanks and glad to be here guys!

Yes, for the extended memory SD card, if nothing else.
I do feel the 8800 is harder for me to type on. I was a wiz on the 8700, but I would not go back now for anything. I do know at least one user who went back to the 8700 because of the keyboard.
Really, it is a personal decision.

I concur on the 8700 being easier to type on.
If you can't live without GPS and/or the SD card go for the 8800. If you can, then the 8700 is a great choice.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
Why only 8700 and 8800 as choices? Why not pearl or 8310?
Is your work providing it to you?
I love the 8700 but I would go with 8800

I forgot about the 8310, thanks. Does the 8310 have gps? Also, I cant stand the typing on the pearl, which is why I didnt include it. The GPS costs extra per month though doesnt it?

gps itself does not cost extra per month to have (it is built in to the 8800 and 8310). From there you can use free gps applications such as Nav4All, or a paid service such as TeleNav (really good, voice directions).
Find more info in our GPS mapping section here on this boad.
Good luck.

The 8310 is actually the most recent released BB model available in the US.

And yes, it does have GPS (I use GoogleMaps on my 8310). I have an 8310 but am thinking about the 8820 because of the "feel factor" of the 8820. Seems more solid than the 8300 series. Both are excellent choices though. All depends are your personal needs/wants. I had the 8700c some time ago and it was a rock solid device just a bit thicker than the 8800 series.

I dont think I can consider the 8310 because I don't think I can afford it.

While I haven't tried the 8800, I recently purchased an 8310 and I love the device. Sound quality is the best I have experienced with any BB device and the speaker phone is really good and really loud. The voice dialing works very well as does the GPS with TeleNav. Great feel in the hand and small and thin. The 8700 call quality is not there on the ATT network, maybe better on some other network but my wife is always complaining when I use it that she can't hear me or understand what I am saying if the environment is noisy. It is just as bad on my end. Not that way at all with the 8310.
I hope this helps.

While the 8700 is still a great device, with years of usefull life left in it, the 8800 and 8300 are both a generation beyond it. Camera or GPS, storage cards, more up-to-date OS, and the slimmer form factor make the newer models stand head and shoulders above the 8700. What the 8700 has going for it is a really great keyboard (some say the best BB keyboard ever) and a cheaper price.

For me, the 8700 is easier to type on. I know have a curve 8320 on T-Mobile. I never opt to get the 8800 series. Even when I had the 8830 at work. The keyboard did JUST not work for me. And I don't like the shape. I know strange, but it feels like the Q to me (even though the Q is much bigger) it just felt awkard. Its thinner, which is nice, maybe too thin for my taste, but is taller than the 8700 and the width is pretty much the same (1mm smaller I believe). It just didn't do it for me.
But, that 8800 is GEORGOUS. That is one thing that is hard to deny, just holding it, wow. GPS and the microsd is something hard to walk away, also longer battery life. I still keep my 8700g, but would I go back to it? Prob not.
The 8800 is worth I think, if it feels good to you and you don't mind, I say go for it.
the 8300 series is perfect for me size wise. While the keyboard isn't as good as my 8700, its a compromise between the 8800 and 8700.

Sure is: http://www.blackberryforums.com/bbf-reviews/ Mostly for accessories and software, but you can search for anything you're interested in.
