Annoying Google Maps Message

I searched for this and could not find any mention. I keep getting this popup message in Google Maps when I run it:
"The Google Maps application requires Bluetooth to be enabled. Enable Bluetooth?"
I was playing with the Bluetooth puck that belongs to a friend, but otherwise I don't have my own GPS puck (yet). So usually, I am using Google Maps without GPS. However, in order to use my friend's GPS, I had to configure it and turn it on through Google Maps, and it worked great. Since then, and after I've returned the puck to my friend, it appears that from now on, Google Maps must have Bluetooth turned on regardless of whether there is a GPS puck in range. This is kind of annoying because I often turn Bluetooth off to conserve on battery but I still want to use Google Maps.
Outside of uninstalling/reinstalling the app, does anyone know how to get around this?
