Didn't Nuke, but Did Something Bad...

So I've recently installed BES 4.1.4 onto a replacement server in my organization. Originally, while reading through the docs on how to retask an existing Blackberry device I saw that you should nuke it then reassign it to a user. So instead of nuking, which seemed scary to say the least, I did a wipe of the apps and user stuff.
At that point BES decided to start doing the hung up "initializing" bug when I added my users. Today I reinstalled the software and it's started working. Great news!!
However, now that my user whose Blackberry I wiped, is getting wireless syching I decided to plug his device into his computer to synch up his address book (a public folder) from Desktop Manager.
AND HERE'S MY PROBLEM:
When I plug his blackberry into the USB port it's recognized by Desktop Manager. It requests a new encryption key (wiggle the mouse) and after it does that it hangs at "working". If I disconnection and reconnect it asks for the new key generation wiggle again, then hangs.
What's the deal?
Thanks in advance!!
