Default Set Polling Interval?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, has anyone tried changing the polling interval to reduce the traffic going to their mail servers from the BES? I'm running BES Domino 4.1.4MR1. I'm pretty sure the default is 20 seconds for everyone?

We've considered this once and decided not to change the default value. When you have a couple hundred users on the server that 20 seconds turns into a minute or maybe a little more. Plus we want instant access not 5 minutes later.

I'm running Bes 4.1 4 with 1000 users, I changed the polling interval to 40 seconds. No complaints, system is running well.

I have heard that 20 seconds was the sweet spot after much research by RIM. I would think a longer interval would improve performance however it seems that you can then run into "clumping" issues which can create backlogs. The logic sort of makes sense but I just ignore the whole thing by leaving to the default.

Any reason you want to change it?

Marco616: did you notice any performance changes in system load on mail server, or a drop in network utilization?

For Domino, when I asked RIM about this, RIM said to leave the default 20 seconds alone, but instead Full Text Index all of the Domino mail files (per user) used by the BES. They said that would help BES quickly scan for new messages.
