Default Blackberry without the BB service

Please Login to Remove!

I want a storm but at this point without the blackberry service/data plan. I know that verizon/vodofone requires a data plan upon purchasing the storm

But I wanted to pose this to the forums and see if this is possible.
' What if I were to purchase a unlocked 9500/9530 from from a third party (e_ay) if I were to sign up a voice plan with T-mobile or AT&T, and use the sim card from either T-Moblile/AT&T in the storm would I be able to use it without having to get the data plan?

Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Forgive me if this topic was posted earlier, but I looked and didn't see anything about this.

Yes. Why wouldn't you want a data plan...?

Long story...The short of it is that I had a blackberry 8830 and became an obsessive blackberry head. To the point where it became a problem at home with me checking my email all the time. (I know i'm not alone...lol)

I like the PDA options of BB storm plus the app store, and just the general smoothness of the Storm.

Yes, you can use it on other carriers without a data plan - T-Mobile in particular I know will allow this. The instructions for how to get it to work on another carrier are listed here in this forum in a couple of posts that you'd have to search for.

However, the app center will be carrier-driven, and from what I understand about it you will not be able to access it while using the phone on another carrier than the one it is branded for.
